Description
La Secharie is one of three gites found at La Tannerie. Perfectly located and just a 5 minute walk away from Chalais, a typical French market town with a hive of activity, bars, shops and restaurants.Chalais has a lively Monday market every week where you can stroll and purchase local produce and people watch with a coffee and croissant at one of the friendly local cafes.
Overlooking the town is the imposing and beautiful 16th century Chateau de Chalais with its drawbridge, surrounding moat and excellent restaurant definitely worth a visit. There is also a busy train station in the heart of Chalais with local routes to Bordeaux and Angouleme, both with onward connections via TGV.
Situated on the Charente/Dordogne border La Tannerie is approximately an hour away from the beautiful towns of
St Emilion, Bordeaux, Brantome, Blaye and Cognac. There is also a wealth of activities locally for youngsters and teenagers eg river beaches, water parks, go ape and kayaking, making La Tannerie a perfect place for a family holiday.
La Sècherie is a quaint two bedroom gite, with a south facing terrace and alfresco dining – perfect to soak up the beautiful French sunsets.
The ground floor has an open plan, living-kitchen area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to kick start your holiday with us, including: oven, hob, large fridge freezer, microwave and washing machine.
In the lounge you’ll find satellite TV with UK and French channels, along with DVDs and plenty of books . There are comfy sofas ( one being a sofa bed ) and a dining table . As well as fast WI Fi throughout the gite and by the pool
There are two spacious bedrooms upstairs. The first has a double bed, the second has twin beds but on request can be zip linked to a large double as needed.
There is a shared bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.
All towels and bedding are supplied and included in the total cost, along with high chairs, stairgates and travel cots should you need them.
La Sècherie has a private gated secluded terrace in front of the gîte – complete with bistro set, dining table, large parasol and a charcoal barbecue for relaxed alfresco dining.
Our spacious garden approx 1 acre has a secure fenced children's play area, with swings and slide, petanque court, table tennis, badminton and a garden games box to provide all the entertainment needed for a lazy day.
Our fenced 12 X 6m swimming pool is surrounded by a large terrace, where you will find a solar shower, plentiful sunbeds, parasols and poolside Wi-Fi for a relaxing day in the sun. Inflatables are allowed .

By Lesley Whitesmith on 12-Sep-2025The second time I have been out to these lovely goes. The gites are really clean, comfy, well equipped and a really lovely welcome pack as you arrive. Jenny and Ken look after their guests really well. Friendly, helpful but not intrusive. A great location, lovely pool and outdoor space, easy access to the town and local shops and market, and well situated for day trips out to places like St Emillion, Bordeaux etc. would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting an enjoyable break in France.

Jenny and Ken are fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they were always available to answer our questions or give us advice on places to visit. The gites are clean and well equipped, and we enjoyed sitting on the terrace and pool were both great. The pool had plentiful sun beds and parasols. We would definitely recommend.

By Tracey Hill on 05-Aug-2023Two perfect weeks and we could’ve stayed forever. Jenny and Ken we amazing hosts, friendly, helpful and so thoughtful. The gîte was spotless with everything you could possibly need provided, the pool was fabulous and the location unbeatable - right in town close to the necessary supermarkets, bars and boulangeries, whilst still secluded, quiet and loads of space for the kids to run about. Nearby villages with loads of activities for those inclined, and plenty of shops and restaurants for those who aren’t. Just a fantastic holiday. My two boys want to go back every year.
