Overview
Description
Ex Officio is located in the idyllic village of East Chaldon or Chaldon Herring as it may otherwise be known and can be found off the A352 just south of Lulworth Cove. This light and airy conversion able to sleep five/six is one of a pair. Originally an office for a coach company, it was converted in 2007 into light and airy 3-bed accommodation able to sleep five (six with a pull-out) with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor to cater for the less agile. It is one of a pair, attached to its smaller sister accommodation, Rex Officio, yet has its own separate entrance and garden area. Constructed of local stone and brick under a tiled roof, it has flag stone flooring throughout. Heating is by oil-fire. Please be aware that only vodafone mobiles may work, but there is wi-fi in the cottage so wi-fi calling will work if your mobile has that feature.Chaldon Herring is a small farming community with a village green in the centre, no shops but does have a pub offering food and outside seating facilities. Neighbouring village shops include a good baker and butcher and several other good local pubs are scattered around the areas of Winfrith, Wool and Lulworth.
Ideally placed for ramblers and lovers of peaceful countryside, with walks emanating from the village to the South West Coastal Path stretching from St Aldhelms Head to Exmouth. Four miles away lies the picturesque coastal village of Lulworth Cove famous for its rock strata and nearby Durdle Door. Whilst off the beaten track, it is nevertheless central to the neighbouring towns of Weymouth, a sandy-beach seaside resort with family attractions and gateway to Portland or Abbotsbury for its swannery and gardens or, to the north, the county town of Dorchester. In the other direction, find Wareham, a walled Saxon town on the river Frome and gateway to the isle of Purbeck offering Corfe Castle and beaches of Studland and Swanage. The snatched village of Tyneham, open mostly only on weekends must be visited.
Weekly lets run from SATURDAY TO SATURDAY and we offer a 5% discount for bookings made by one couple only. We are now pleased to offer short breaks: minimum 3nights. If the date you wanted is not available here, please take a look at our other 3-bed property Damers. By Gary on 08-Aug-2025We had a fantastic 3 nights here. A perfect base for exploring the Dorset coast. Only 10 minutes from Durdle Door and Lulworth. About 30mins to either Weymouth or Swanage. And under an hour to Lyme Regis. The property was bigger than expected. Well laid out and was perfect for our family of four and the dog. It was spotless when we arrived. Kitchen was great for all our meals. Beds were comfy. Great WiFi. Our Kids missed their Netflix in evening so bring your firestick or similar to get access to streaming apps if you need that time to relax in evening. We enjoyed the board games In the home, scrabble and monopoly instead! There’s a pub, The Sailors Return, literally a few minutes down the road which served excellent food and good ales which helped after long days of exploring. Rosemary and Terry were very welcoming on arrival. They left us some milk and a cake which was lovely treat. Both very polite and helpful. Would definitely return when we head back to Dorset in future.

By Brenda & Steve on 21-Jun-2025Brenda & Steve 14th -21st June Ex Officio is a lovely, spacious and very clean cottage. It is very well equipped and comfortable. We found the ground floor bedrooms and the two showers extremely useful. It is also very quiet and peaceful here. The owners, Rosemary and her husband Terry, are great and can’t do enough to help.
