Description

Rural location, 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, 3 miles from picturesque town, Saturday changeover.

Lovingly renovated Breton cottage, surrounded by farmland and set in the valley of the River Aulne/Nantes-Brest Canal, but only 3 miles from the picturesque town of Châteauneuf-du-Faou.

The cottage is about 100 metres from the river and has access to the broad winding towpath, which is ideal for walking and cycling. The river also provides opportunities for fishing and generally messing about on the water.

The glorious sandy beaches of the west coast of Finistère are less than 30 miles away and the north and south coasts within an hour's drive. The cottage is ideally placed to explore the beautiful scenery and picturesque cities and villages of Finistère and adjoining departments, yet only 50 miles from the nearest ferryport at Roscoff.

The accommodation is thoughtfully furnished throughout. The open plan ground floor has a fully equipped kitchen at one end, with a large dining table that easily seats six, and a living area with comfortable sofas and a traditional Breton fireplace with a woodburning stove. For entertainment there is a TV for playing DVDs and a selection DVDs (and videos!), some light reading and various boardgames.

From the sitting room a couple of steps lead up towards the ground floor double bedroom and bathroom, with w.c., washbasin and a small bath with shower over.

On the first floor there is another double bedroom, a twin bedded room, and a bathroom, with w.c., washbasin and shower.

Bedding and linen are provided, but visitors are asked to bring their own towels. All the bedrooms are spacious and airy, with plenty of room to accommodate a travelcot (not provided), and they all have views along the tranquil river valley.

Outside there is a garden with barbecue and patio furniture, where you may relax with a glass of chilled wine and watch the sun go down behind the tree-lined river valley. There is off road parking for two cars.

Visitors are welcome to borrow our family bicycles (five adults’ and two children's) and may like to use them to visit the restaurants and bars that are within an easy cycle ride both up or down river.

Châteauneuf-du-Faou is a picturesque town poised over the Aulne valley. Here you will find all the usual range of shops, bakeries, banks, restaurants, a supermarket and a convenience store, as well as the Penn ar Pont leisure centre, where a variety of boats may be hired. The town was once home to the symbolist painter Paul Sérusier, whose murals adorn the church, and continues its patronage of the arts by hosting a jazz festival every August; there are frequent art exhibitions in the town and at the nearby Château de Trévarez, whose gardens are worth a visit in their own right.

The cottage is in a tranquil rural location. There is one neighbouring house whose friendly French owners speak excellent English. The only passing traffic is the yellow “poste” van each morning.

A haven in rural western Brittany

By Lesley and Michael Mahoney on 08-Jul-2023

We knew as headed down the lane to Ty ar Rozenn, we had made the right choice, viewing the cottage only confirmed this The cottage, a traditional stone built cottage, facing fields, looking down the valley was charming It's rustic exterior, was complimented by a comfortable and cosy interior. The cottage itself is very well equipped, furnished and supplied, with comfortable beds, good quality bedding, a kitchen with everything and more required for a self catering holiday. Those extras, like a plentiful supply of toilet and kitchen roll, dishwasher and washing machine tablets, made a big difference A great bonus is the information book, well written, up to date, an excellent resource And of course the location, yes you have the sense of isolation and solitude, but Châteauneuf-du-Faou is a short drive away, and it has good restaurants, a supermarket and had a welcoming feel We found that the cottage was close to lots of great little towns and attractions We loved Pont Aven, Le Faou and the Chateau Trevarez Also having access to the Brest Nantes canal with it's walks and use of the bikes, was a great bonus Yes we used the WiFi to listen to BBC sounds, but we we did not switch on the TV all week. Spending the long light filled evenings watching the wildlife, birds and the sun setting over the valley

Thank you very much. We are glad you had a good holiday and enjoyed the area.

Beautiful cottage. Lovely surroundings.

Beautiful, spotlessly clean and well equipped cottage, home from home. Very quiet spot perfect for a relaxing holiday, all you hear is the wildlife. Excellent barbecue and outside seating, shady areas when sun is too hot. Bikes a bonus to ride alongside the canal which is 2 mins direct access from the cottage. Beaches and lakes within an hours drive away. Owners very accommodating and extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend this cottage for a great holiday.

A peaceful haven in Brittany

By Andy on 09-Jul-2022

Ty ar Rozenn is a beautiful base to explore Brittany. We loved the local area and the fact that you've only got to cross one field and you're on the Aulne. We cycled down the canal into Châteauneuf-du-Faou and enjoyed a lovely meal by the river at Le Chaland, and although we wanted to practice our poor French it was nice as a back up that the owner of the restaurant was English. We explored Quimper and the Crozon peninsula (about an hour away) is a must - hire kayak's from Morgat and explore the coastal caves. A fantastic peaceful break from the hustle and bustle. Spotlessly clean and everything you want for an escape from the rat race.
