Chez Lussaud is a beautiful 300 year old private hamlet located in the southern tip of the Charente. Set in 8 acres of gardens, woods & open spaces, it is the perfect place to kick off your shoes, relax & take in the views. Le Four a Pain is one of two boutique gites with private garden, your own wood-fired hot tub & shared pool. Holidays are very precious, our aim is for you to go home completely relaxed & rested, having enjoyed the peace, tranquility & hospitality Chez Lussaud has to offer.

Located in a stunning rural community we have miles of walks in open countryside, woods, along rivers and around lakes. There are excellent cycle routes for varying levels. We are ideally located for exploring as we are based on the departmental borders of the Charente, Charente-Maritime, Dordogne and the Gironde. The beautiful city of Bordeaux is 1 hours drive, as is the west coast with its miles of sand beaches, and the stunning vineyards and villages around Saint Emillion are just 40 mins away. There are vineyard and tasting tours for wine, our local aperitif Pineaux des Charente and Cognac. There are daily markets selling fresh local produce throughout the year and many brocantes to explore. Activities such as kayaking, high ropes, parks, swimming lakes and indoor pursuits are all within a short driving distance. There are many restaurants to choose from depending on your palette, ranging from good honest local fare to Michelin starred taster menus.

La Maison du Charpentier (The Carpenters House) - Sleeps 4/5

A large traditional Charente farmhouse can comfortably accommodate 4 guests in two very large ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom has a beautiful hand forged iron four poster bed with a deep fully sprung super-king mattress and topper. The second bedroom, Le Jardin Chambre has a french corbeille bed with a deep king size sprung mattress. Good quality 100% Egyptian cotton bedding and towels are provided for your stay and included in the price.

In addition, a 140 cm wide (small double) sofa bed can be set up in the Couloir/Dining Room for up an additional guest if required (please discuss prior to booking).

A large fully equipped traditional shaker style kitchen provides a wonderful place to cook, eat and socialise. The dressers contain a wide range of glassware and a 6 place setting of breakfast/lunch crockery. The well equipped kitchen has an electric induction hob cooker, Lavazza coffee machine with milk frother, dishwasher, microwave, blender and a wide range of kitchen knives and cooking utensils to enable you to create dishes to your hearts content. There is a 2 metre long oak kitchen table, ideal for your traditional french breakfast each morning, with views down to the woods at the bottom of the garden. With a wood burning stove and two traditional french armchairs, it is also the perfect place to pause with a glass of Bordeaux while your evening meal is in the oven.

The main entrance from the courtyard and the heart of the farmhouse is 'The Couloir' which is steeped in history and was the former meeting place for the hamlet. Every room in the farmhouse leads off the Couloir and there are large Charentise doors at each end. To reflect its history, we have turned this room back into a formal dining room, with its polished wood floor and a large refectory table seating 8, it is ideal for get-togethers with family and friends, and the perfect place to enjoy Christmas or a celebration dinner. With both tables you can easily seat 14, particularly useful if you are a family renting both gites together enabling you to socialise together, but still enjoy your own space. The dresser contains a full dinner service for up to 8 people with oven to table ware included. In addition, there are two quiet seating areas at each end of the Couloir, one end has the sofa bed which can be partitioned off with curtains.

Lounge - Equipped with a flat screen smart tv, Freeview UK satellite channels, music system and comfortably furnished, the very large lounge provides the ideal area to relax after a day out exploring. For the budding writer, or those that need to ‘work from home’ while away, there is a large traditional desk/work space to one side of the lounge.

Set into the lounge fireplace is a Provence log burner effect fire (gas), in addition there is full central heating throughout and a log burner in the kitchen, perfect for those out of season breaks. Your first basket of logs is complimentary.

Leaving the Couloir from the back doors you will find a large chestnut tree and gravelled area with comfortable seating, perfect for enjoying a bit of shade from the summer sun, or watching the sun go down over the pool. Your garden area extends with a large lawned area up to the pool house, giving you your own private access to the shared pool.

Just across from your kitchen door is a terracotta terrace with your own private wood-fired hot tub for your complete relaxation. The hot tub has air jets and ambient lighting, so that you can relax in the sun or take in the stunning clear night sky with a glass of wine. Next to the hot tub terrace is a large gravelled area for out door dining with table and chairs and a Weber charcoal BBQ.

Parking space is provided for up to two cars at the side of the house.

Pool - The salt water pool is 11.5m x 5m with a depth ranging from 1m up to 1.80m in the deep end. Equipped with sun loungers, parasols and a cabana, we also provide pool towels and pool baskets for your stay. The pool is shared with one other gite. The pool is open from 1st May-1st Oct, opening hours are 10h00-20h00, weather permitting.

Leisure - There is a Pétanque court, badminton, swing ball, table tennis, spike ball and croquet to wile away the hours, and three hammocks ideal for that book you've been meaning to read. Each gite has its own set of boules and garden games for your enjoyment. There is a tennis court in the village 0.5km away.

Free superfast fibre WIFI is available.

A generous welcome basket with local Charentise produce is provided on arrival, and when in season, you can help yourselves to fruit from our trees and herbs from the garden.

Dogs with 'well behaved owners' are welcome (max 2 per gite). Dog bowls and doggy treats provided! Please note that while the gardens are private, this garden is not fenced off, so leads are required here at all times please. We have a large field and woods at the back which is ideal for dog walking. Dogs are not permitted in the pool area. The owners have two very friendly Golden Retrievers.

In addition, a travel cot, toddler bed, changing table with integrated baby bath, ‘Tripp Trapp’ high chair and a booster seat can be made available on request when booking, subject to availability.

Check-In is after 18h00. In the lower season it may be possible to agree an earlier check-in. Check-Out is before 10h00.

One week before your arrival we will email with check-in information and our address for your your GPS. We live in one of the houses in the hamlet, we will meet and greet you on arrival, and show you round, We aim to be available should you have any queries or we can help with anything. However, we try to be as discreet as possible, leaving you in peace and quiet to enjoy your holiday.

To check availability and prices please go to our website and select the dates you require. The website will confirm if your dates are available and the total cost of your holiday. Please note in peak season (Jul/Aug) there is a minimum 7 night stay and check in is Saturdays only. All other periods are flexible check-in days and min 3 night stay.

A non-refundable payment of 30% of the booking will secure your reservation and you will be emailed confirmation and a receipt. A booking contract will then be emailed to you with payment schedule and terms and conditions.

All payments are via the secure Stripe payment system, they accept all cards and currencies.

A refundable damage security deposit of 500 euros will be requested one week before your arrival.

Smoking is NOT permitted within any part of Chez Lussaud, the garden, grounds, woodland or park, this is for the safety and well-being of all our guests, in particular during the summer months when the grounds are very dry.

We are open all year.
