Description
Acorn cottage has been tastefully renovated and benefits from a luxury bathroom with marble tiles and underfloor heating, kitchen with top quality Neff appliances and its generously equipped; we're keen cooks and like to cook on holiday and we ensure that our guests can too and we even provide basic herbs, spices and oils so you don't have to bring half your kitchen on holiday!
Beds are dressed in luxury Egyptian Cotton, and we provide all toiletries, towels and linens and we have installed hotel style lighting meaning you can read in comfort at night without disturbing your partner.
We didn’t know East Devon until we saw the property and we were taken away with its beauty and the ability to be by the sea in minutes. We’ve stayed in many self-catering places over the years both here in abroad, and I really wanted to create a place that we’d like to stay in ourselves. Our guests have told us that we've thought of everything and we've achieved the right balance of design and practicality that keeps our guests comfortable and able to relax in our beautiful surroundings. Having worked in the City in senior roles, I know how exhausting modern life can be, and Acorn Cottage is a haven of calm and tranquility for our guests to recharge in comfort.

Built in 1868 Acorn Cottage is a traditional flint cottage, and was a milking parlour. The property oozes with character and benefits from its own private secure enclosed garden and we are doggie welcoming and will happily take one well-behaved family friendly breed of dog. Should you wish to bring two dogs, please get in touch with us to discuss and this is possible by prior arrangement. Acorn Cottage even has a hot & cold doggie shower so your dog can enjoy the coast and beautiful countryside on your doorstep and then wash it all off.
Acorn Cottage sits in the heart of Southleigh and its a great place to live with a fantastic agricultural community at its heart. The beautiful towns and villages of the Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Beer and Branscombe are but minutes away.

Location: Just minutes away is the beautiful historical village of Beer with its quaint shops, cafe's and its famous beach, its still a working fishing village. Equidistant to Beer is Branscombe that has two fantastic pubs and a huge beach which is never crowded even in the height of summer, its our favourite beach in the area.Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are only 20 minutes away, Sidmouth with its Regency splendour whilst Lyme Regis is more bohemian filled with independent shops and cafes, its a real hot spot for fantastic restaurants and eateries, its a beautiful seaside town.
There are stunning walks right from your doorstep at Acorn Cottage in the Coly valley, we're minutes from the East Devon Way, or drive a few minutes and you're on the South West Coastal Path, with dramatic coastal scenery with rolling hills down to the shoreline, bring your walking shoes, there's lots to explore. Being by the coast, you can do fishing trips, paddle-board, canoe, there's plenty of activities on the water that you can choose from and if exploring the beautiful countryside on horseback is more your thing, we have riding stables a couple of miles away from us.
If you want to unwind in beautiful rural surroundings, take a dip in the clear blue sea and enjoy some of the best food and produce that England has to offer, then East Devon and Acorn Cottage is for you.

An excellent retreat

Acorn Cottage
By Clare on 05-Jan-2025Lance and Ants welcomed us to our stay at Acorn Cottage. The cottage is in a gorgeous location. It was beautifully presented and every detail has been considered. The kitchen was perfect and well stocked with everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal. We absolutely loved our stay there and would highly recommend Acorn Cottage to everyone!
A perfect short break in the Devon countryside
By Katherine on 24-Apr-2025We had the most wonderful stay at Acorn Cottage! From the moment we booked, everything felt personal and thoughtful. Ants, the owner, even rang us the afternoon of our arrival to let us know the cottage was ready early in case we were nearby – such a kind and helpful gesture after a long drive! When we arrived, Ants greeted us with umbrellas in hand (a classic English welcome!) and showed us around the cottage. It was beautiful – cosy, stylishly furnished, spotless, and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need for a long weekend in the countryside. The welcome goodies were next-level. The kitchen was stocked with quality essentials like milk, butter, and eggs, plus treats to graze on and even everything needed for a full English breakfast – the bacon was especially delicious! The standout, though, was the homemade lemon sponge cake Ants had baked for us. It was heavenly – we ate most of it and took the last couple of slices home with us as it was too good to waste! The location was equally perfect – tucked away in the quiet, picturesque village of Southleigh. On Ants’ recommendation, we took our dog to nearby Branscombe Beach (just a 15-minute drive) and it did not disappoint. We were lucky to catch the sunshine and enjoyed a scenic walk along the coast followed by pasties and drinks at the Sea Shanty Beach Cafe. We honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Acorn Cottage is a dream for anyone looking for a peaceful, dog-friendly countryside escape with plenty of beautiful walks and personal touches. We’re already planning to come back – hopefully with family next time so we can stay in their lovely B&B next door!

Relaxing weekend break
By Dawn on 11-May-2025Without a doubt Ants and Lance have a wonderful cottage which was immaculately clean and the best equipped cottage kitchen we have ever visited - that goes too for the lovely and delicious welcome hamper and homemade cake. Top marks to Ants! We will most definitely return (cottage or B&B - time will tell) as their hospitality and caring to ensure you have everything you need is second to none. We absolutely loved our 3 nights there. On the morning of our departure we didn’t want to leave and could’ve happily stayed longer! We have already recommended your place to all our friends and family. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts - we very much look forward to seeing you both again when time off work allows. D & J x
