Description

THE COTTAGE
Aughavannagh Cottage is a beautiful restored Irish cottage to rent in the scenic Wicklow Mountains only an hour south of Dublin. Located adjacent to The Wicklow Way hiking trail at the foot of Lugnaquilla, it’s the perfect location for a memorable holiday in Ireland. Uniquely private and peaceful, it is set in its own secluded grounds extending to 5 acres of tranaquility in beautiful mountain scenery. This truly the hidden Ireland - off the tourist trail and yet convenient to a huge range of things to see and do for every age!

Sleeping up to seven in four lovely bedrooms and with a magnificent kitchen, this gorgeous cottage is fully equipped with all mod cons but maintains the character of times past. Only minutes from the world-famous lake and valley of Glendalough, the cottage is easily reached from ferries and airports, making it the ideal holiday accommodation for hiking, golfing, sailing and fishing - or just lazing about enjoying the stunning Irish landscape.

This pretty cottage comprises a fully equipped kitchen with a huge old farmhouse table and oil-fired range as well as a modern hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso machine and fridge freezer. There’s a pretty sitting room with open fire and Satellite TV and broadband.

There are 2 beautiful double bedrooms upstairs with gorgeous views along with a shower room and W.C. Downstairs there are two bedrooms – a twin and one single bedroom, alongside a bathroom with full bath, overhead shower and W.C. There’s also a study/reading room and utility room with washing machine and dryer. The cottage is exceptionally private with no immediate neighbours and enjoys complete privacy up its own laneway off a quiet country road. It is set on 5 acres with magnificent views, and a lovely old garden complete with garden furniture and a barbecue and ample parking.

TO SEE AND DO
The Wicklow Mountains is one of Ireland most scenic areas. The cottage is in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to over 3,000 feet behind the cottage. The area is a walkers paradise with countless opportunities to get away from it all in beautiful unspoilt mountain scenery. Whether you want a gentle stroll in lovely surroundings or prefer a more energetic all day hike, there is always a wide choice. Waterfalls, mountain lakes and deep glaciated valleys all provide a wonderful backdrop for walkers of every ability and around the cottage lots of opportunities to see wild deer and Red Kites.

In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing and blue flag beaches. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is an easy day trip for visits to breweries, museums and great shopping. The location is famous for its many pretty villages (including Avoca and its mill and the little village - 'Ballykissangel' of TV fame) complete with welcoming pubs and restaurants. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is a little over half an hour down the valley. For kids, the maze and farm at nearby Greenan is highly rated, as is the fun park at Clara Lara.

REVIEWS

"High in the Wicklow Mountains, just the most picture-perfect example of a country home. It retains the 19th century cottage feel, but with all the comforts of a good home away from home."
The Irish Times

"A beautiful, traditional Irish cottage tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow Mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located at the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads, pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes - Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are only half an hour away."
The Sunday Business Post

“Beautifully restored”
Daily Telegraph

TO NOTE
We provide fresh linen and towels and hair dryers. The only extras are oil and electricity - metered and supplied at cost. The cottage kitchen is gorgeous and properly fitted out – so if you feel like cooking for example the kitchen is fully equipped – great Neff oven and hob, microwave, food processor etc. (and we supply the essentials such as dishwasher tablets).

Stunning Location!

By Edel Martin on 15-Oct-2022

We had a lovely time recently in this beautiful homely cottage in a stunning location (peaceful and quiet). Nature on the doorstep and the sound of a babbling stream. We enjoyed forest walks from the cottage. Great location to observe the moon and stars at night as there are no other lights nearby. A superb place to relax and unwind. Thank you David for being a very considerte and helpful host. Highly recommended.
