Description
Croagnes is situated on a spur on the north side of the Luberon valley, looking south towards the Luberon mountains. The hamlet consists of eight houses and a church. The church is at the front of the spur from where there is an enormous panoramic view of the valley. From the bedroom window one can watch the sunrise over the Plateau d'Albion. Outside, across the way, there are steps down to the garden, which consists of two terraces, sheltered from the village square and the Mistral, by a wall and trees.
Croagnes is situated off the D2 from Gordes to St. Saturnin Les Apt, turn left
just after La Tuiliere (approx 10 minutes drive from Gordes, travelling East.)
The hamlet is on a hill behind the small white church, which is easily visible from the road below (D2). Having turned left, signposted to Croagnes, drive up hill and you will arrive in the village square where there is a tree – a Micoucoulier – with a large, low dry stone wall around it. Please park to the left of this. The house has brown shutters and is on the corner of the group of houses facing you.
The house is fully equipped. The bed is a 4’6” double bed – firm interior sprung mattress on a wooden base. There is a duvet, rather too hot for summer months, 4 pillows (English size), a large blanket and two rugs. All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided.
In the kitchen there is a fridge, a small separate freezer, a cooker, a small English, electric one with two hot plates, a grill and an oven, a separate microwave and all the necessary equipment. The bathroom is a wet room with a shower, wash hand basin and lavatory. Water is heated by an electric water heater.
There is a dining room/sitting room with a large open fireplace, and a wide staircase leading to upstairs where there is a very large, light, sitting room/bedroom. All the windows have shutters and mosquito nets. The floors are tiled and the house is very easy to live in and extremely easy to clean.
Outside, across the way, there are steps down to the garden, which consists of two terraces, sheltered from the village square and the Mistral, by a wall and trees. There are 2 chairs and a table which stay in the garden. There are also 2 lounger chairs, which can be left in the garden but should be put against the wall every night, so that they cannot be seen from the road.
A washing line is provided on the upper terrace.
As the area becomes very dry during the summer, fire is a great hazard. Under no circumstances may a barbecue be used in the garden. If you wish to bring a barbecue, you may use it in the large open fireplace in the house. The local rule of law is no fires outside from May 1st to October 31st.
