Description

Scandinavian style detached wooden lodge, with wood burner with extensive garden. Tranquil open view across the meadow towards Blencathra from the living room window. This detached wood built lodge is surrounded by unspoilt countryside, with Greystoke Forest on one side, stunning views over the meadow to Blencathra on the other, and bordered by a small unfenced stream. There is parking space for 2 cars at the front of the property. Additionally, there is an outside decking area with seating, perfect for enjoying summer evenings and admiring the often beautiful sunsets.

The lounge /dining area is large, modern and recently furnished with a high vaulted ceiling and a wood burning stove for which some logs are provided. The dining table comfortably seats six people. Wi Fi is available throughout the property and for your entrainment there is a CD/radio together with a TV/DVD player and through the Roku box it is possible to access Freeview or log into your own streaming services, if you have a subscription. The squirrel feeder positioned just outside the window allows guests to observe, from close range, the antics of red squirrels, which are frequent visitors helping themselves to nuts. Also, a variety of birds can often be seen feeding from the stations provided for them.

There are three bedrooms, a double, twin and a single. All are spacious and enjoy varied views of the picturesque surroundings. All bedding is provided and built-in wardrobes along with chests of drawers, provide storage for personal items. If required a travel cot, bed guards and a high chair are also available.

There is a recently modernised shower room, which has an easily accessed generous shower cubicle with a powerful electric shower, in addition to a toilet, washbasin and vanity unit.

The Lake District offers many quality pubs and restaurants, but if you choose to eat in, the large kitchen is fully equipped for family catering including oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave and toaster. Ample space is available in cupboards for storing provisions.

With bustling Keswick its shops, galleries, pubs restaurants and street markets and beautiful Ullswater all within 30 minutes drive there's plenty to do within easy reach. The surrounding countryside, including nearby Greystoke forest, is all easily accessible and there are plenty of opportunities for walks from the relaxing to the more energetic.

Just a 15 minute drive is Penrith, a thriving ancient market town with its supermarkets, castle and railway station. Nearby are the charming villages of Greystoke, Caldbeck, Mungrisdale and Hesketh Newmarket, with their own pubs and local shops. Sitting between Keswick, Penrith, Carlisle and Ullswater, this lodge offers an ideal base for exploring the northern Lake District, Cumbria and also Hadrian's Wall. Easy access from the M6 at junction 41 is an added bonus.

A little haven of calm

By Emma & family on 27-Oct-2025

I stayed at the accommodation over half-term with my sister, our two boys aged 12 and 8 and Lily the Labrador. We are both teachers and the lodge provided a little bit of calm. The location was right in the middle of nowhere, but Penrith was only a 20 min drive away. There were so many great touches to the lodge, and it was so well stocked with things like toilet roll, shower gel etc and also the fire was so cosy on the cooler evenings. Friendly owners and a shame it’s 300 miles away from home, as would come back again soon!

Amazing 5 nights in the north lakes

By Jonny on 27-Apr-2025

The lodge is in a beautiful location, about 20 minutes drive from Keswick and easily accessible from the M6. We are a family of 2 + a very little one but the lodge would comfortably fit a family of 5. The living room is stunning and looks out on to the fields with blencathra in the distance. Facilities were excellent, and the surrounding area was great for short walks.

An Amazing place to stay

By May Bakare on 18-Apr-2025

We absolutely loved everything about our stay in Dukes Meadow. I’ll admit, we were a bit skeptical at first since we weren’t familiar with the website but it turned out to be a fantastic choice. Colin was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the whole process, which really puts us at ease. The place itself was beautiful, clean, and exactly what we needed for a relaxing getaway. My friends and I had such a lovely time—everyone had great things to say about the experience. It honestly exceeded our expectations. I’d 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and well-managed stay.
