House in Deal, Kent, England - Peaceful Location, 2 Minutes Walk To Beach, Close To Town, Restaurants And ShopsOld Malmsey is a Grade 2 listed house in the centre of the Conservation area of Deal. Just a 2 minute walk from the beach yet in a convenient location for the town centre.
It has a homely and comfortable living room with an open fire and two sofas with HD television. This leads to a kitchen/dining room which in turn leads to a sunroom and out into the walled garden which is a sun trap. Here there is a side entrance to the garden and a BBQ and seating area.
The stairs to the first floor lead from the living room but typical to this period of house, are fairly steep. On the first floor is a bedroom with a king size bed. There is room for a cot bed in here if needed. From the landing are steps down to the bathroom, and also steps up to the second floor. Here there is a bedroom with two single sleigh beds and also a single bedroom. The bathroom has a large shower area.
This house is well equipped and comfortable and DVDs and board games are available for rainy days as is free wi fi. House is centrally heated.
Travel cot and highchair can be provided, but you must bring your own bed linen for the cot.
There is a strict No Smoking policy in the house. There is parking up by the seafront (about a 1 minute walk away) and this is pay and display, as is the car park to the rear of the property (this is not available on Saturdays as it is Market day). There is free parking to the north of Deal, about a 5 minute walk away. Loading and unloading is permitted outside the house, but no parking as it is a conservation area.
There is a cellar in the house which is a short staircase between the living room and kitchen. There is a freezer and another fridge down here. Also a great place for storing luggage etc.
All bed linen, tea towels etc are provided and towels for personal use. Price does not include cleaning which is £60 regardless of length of stay.
As per many properties in the Conservation Area, the stairs are a little steep so could be a issue if you have mobility issues.
Check-in time is 15.00 on day of arrival and departure time is 10.00 although I will try to be as flexible as possible.

She also provided some great recommendations for local eateries and potentially saved us from some disappointing meals. Her cottage is thoughtfully laid out with everything you could think of, the location is spectacular with the seafront and a busy high st just a stones throw away. I highly recommend you book your stay at Moira's...You won't be disappointed!

By Jonathan on 17-Nov-2025We had a wonderful stay at Old Malmsey which is superbly located in the conservation area of Deal in Middle Street making it superb for local market and high street and of course the wonderful beach. We have been coming to Deal for over 30 years and without doubt this is one of the best experiences we've had . The house is spotlessly clean and substantial with 4 floors which was perfect for us. It felt like a real home which was amazing , the place is gorgeous with a real sense of the owners mark on it which we loved. The place was lovely in warm on a cold November weekend. We cant wait to come again , Moira was highly responsive and the perfect host . Olena and Jonathan
What a cosy cottage ….
By James on 09-Nov-2025What a cosy cottage (very very cosy says our 10 year old) on a picturesque street (we enjoyed finding out about its smuggling history). It was great to be so close to the sea, shops and restaurants. We enjoyed a walk along the coast with a view of the white cliffs - and visiting Walmer and Dover castles. We’d happily return.
We had a wonderful experience
By Chris on 18-Oct-2016We had a wonderful experience at Moira's place in Deal. The house is beautiful and characterful with lots of space and buckets of charm. Extremely convenient for the beach and town centre, a wonderful restaurant where we spent our anniversary only a few minutes walk away. Communication with Moira was excellent, we were kept informed about everything and picking up the key was a breeze. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend a stay here.
Just back from a wonderful week
By Fiona on 17-Apr-2017Just back from a wonderful week here and we will definitely be back again!! The house is just gorgeous and Moira is an excellent host. Communication with Moira from my initial enquiry and throughout our stay was fast and friendly and she was very quick to respond to any questions we had. The location of the house couldn't be better. 30 second walk in one direction to the beach and 30 seconds the other way to the high street with all of its pretty and quirky independent shops. The property is extremely well equipped and everything is of the best quality with beautiful furnishings throughout and the beds and the linen on every bed are just dreamy top end boutique hotel standard. I can't rate this place highly enough and hope to be back next year.
