Description
Whispering Thatch is a large group holiday house in Devon that sleeps 14 guests in 6 bedrooms, including an integral ground floor annexe for 2. The location is idyllic, tucked away in the winding lanes on the edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This former farmhouse is set on a hillside with views over the wide open fields and rolling hills of the Otter Valley. Outside there’s a large garden with a private hot tub and play area, inside there is so much rustic charm, with heaps of character retained in the bumpy old walls, exposed elm timbers and chunky beams, wide window sills, and old flagstones.This is a gorgeous rural retreat that’s perfect for gatherings of two or three young families, for multigenerational family holidays, refined hen weekends, and reunions with friends. There are walks from the doorstep and just down the road is Honiton with supermarkets, independent shops and places to eat. Within an easy drive you’ll find family attractions to visit, National Trust houses and fun-filled activities for all ages; the beaches of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site can be reached within 30 minutes. The A30 is just 5 minutes away and the M5 is within easy reach.

By Barry on 01-Jan-2025The house was beautiful and owner extremely helpful. We did wonder whether we might struggle with the aga- but that was fine. There were a couple of flickering lightbulbs - but they were replaced quickly and the 'handyman' was really polite and as helpful as the owner. Our only MINOR complaint was the hot tub took an age to come up to temperature so we only really had the use of it towards the end of the second day. Apart from that - an AMAZING house, beautifully presented and extremely well facilitated by the owner and her team - THANK YOU!!!
House was really well equipped
By Sharratt on 04-Apr-2025House was really well equipped. Loved the kitchen and especially the aga.Would have liked some better outside furniture as the benches weren't very comfortable. Having said that, the garden was brilliant for the children who spent most of their time playing football. And of course the hot tub was great.

By Riggs on 06-Jun-2025We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, particularly the hot tub. Whispering Thatch was clean with everything we needed for our stay and the host very welcoming. We did think there was a lack of basic supplies ie more bin bags, toilet rolls and shower gel would have been a welcome touch.
Great place for hosting family get togethers.
By Pope on 07-Jul-2025Really appreciate the warm welcome from Pippa on arrival and the kind gesture of the wedding gift. We loved every minute of it thank you. Great place for hosting family get togethers. Kitchen and dining room were very spacious and snooker table was an extra bonus.
