Overview
Description
Damers is located in Chaldon Herring (or East Chaldon as it may otherwise be known), just south of Lulworth cove, off the A352. Originally a farmhouse dating from the 1580's, it is typically constructed of flint and brick under thatch and has a triple aspect overlooking the village green on one side, garden on another and open fields at the rear. Ideally suited for walkers with paths emanating from the village to the South West Coastal Path, now part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site, it is four miles by road from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, but can be walked by the more adventurous across the downs. Chaldon is a working farm village with quiet country lanes away from traffic. It has some fifty houses, a pub and a church with a green in the centre and has remained largely unspoiled and peaceful since the days when it was a hub for past artists, such as the Powys and Muntz and minor Bloomsbury set.Despite our remoteness, a short drive will take you to the seaside towns of Weymouth, a sandy-beach seaside resort with family attractions and gateway to Portland or Abbotsbury for its swannery and gardens or, to the north, the county town of Dorchester. In the other direction, find Wareham, a walled Saxon town on the river Frome and gateway to the isle of Purbeck offering Corfe Castle and beaches of Studland and Swanage. The snatched village of Tyneham, open mostly only on weekends should be visited. Last but not least and not far away are the Tank Museum and Monkey World.
Village shops nearby include a good baker and butcher and several good local pubs are scattered around the area including our own village pub with outdoor space. Please be aware that only vodafone mobiles may work, but there is wi-fi in the cottage so wi-fi calling will work if your mobile has that feature.
Weekly lets run from FRIDAY to FRIDAY, with a 5% discount for bookings made by one couple only. Responding to public demand, we are now pleased to offer short breaks: minimum 5nights. If the date you wanted is not available here, please take a look at our other 3-bed property Ex Officio which takes up to two dogs in enclosed garden. Payment either by cheque made payable to Mrs Rosemary Hodder or online to the account designated on the booking form.

By James on 11-Aug-2025James 6 – 11 Aug 2025 Rating, 5 stars ,· 1 week ago Thank you Rosemary and Terry for a wonderful stay. East Chaldon (Chaldon Herring) is a special village, quiet, quaint and plenty of charm. We enjoyed the scenic walks early in the morning and at dusk. The local pub was welcoming and it was the perfect location to use as a base to see the local attractions such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Dorchester, Knoll Beach, Weymouth and many other things. All the best.
