Description
Holiday home near Sarlat, Castelnaud, Beynac and La Roque Gageac.Set in two and a half acres of land, including woodland, the property is wonderfully secluded and situated in the heart of the Dordogne. It is a short distance to many popular tourist attractions and amenities making it the ideal base for a family holiday, or simply to use as a rural retreat. The house is situated towards the end of a small access road serving 3 properties only, making it very peaceful and tranquil, with no passing traffic.
There is a private 10m x 5m swimming pool with solar cover and Roman steps for warmer water and easy access. In line with current French legislation it is surrounded by a security fence and fitted with a lockable, child-proof gate, for your peace of mind when visiting with young children and non-swimmers. Sun loungers and parasols are provided for your comfort.
Outside there is a very large garden to the front of the property, ideal for all sorts of ball games and recreational activities or just to enjoy the fantastic space and scenery. To the rear there is a terrace with gazebo, table and chairs for alfresco dining and BBQ. A wonderful suntrap.
The accommodation comprises a large open-plan lounge/diner with plenty of comfy seating for 8 guests. We have provided UK Freeview satellite TV channels, French satellite TV channels and free, internet WiFi access for your convenience and enjoyment.
Air conditioning is fitted in all four bedrooms for your comfort at night.
There are two sets of double glass doors opening out from the lounge. One on to the terrace with outdoor table and chairs for 8 under a gazebo with a BBQ . A perfect place for alfresco dining at the end of the day. The other onto a shady, grassed area, ideal for younger children, at the front of the house.
There is split sleeping accommodation making it ideal for two families sharing. It comprises a self-contained downstairs double bedroom and twin bedroom with separate toilet and bathroom (with over the bath shower) and an upstairs double bedroom and twin bedroom served by a large shower room and toilet. Air conditioning has been fitted for your comfort in all the bedrooms.
There is a fully equipped kitchen and utility room with fridge/freezer, fan oven/halogen hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.
All bed linen and towels are provided, including pool towels.
Everything has been provided for you to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
If you enjoy stunning scenery, space, peace and quiet, private pool, leisure activities, many places of interest to visit, good food and wine then Chene Bois and the Dordogne is the ideal place to visit at any time of year.
Change-over day is a Saturday.
Please note:
Due to the nature of the terrain at Chene Bois the swimming pool and large garden is accessed by an inclined path up from the house or the steep driveway. The woodland at the rear of the house is also steep and uneven. This makes Chene Bois unsuitable for people with restricted mobility or who are wheelchair dependent.
Please do take a look at all the photos to get a sense of the type of terrain on which the house is situated.
Outside:
The property has its own drive and large, lawned garden.
The swimming pool (10m x 5m) has been fitted with Solar cover to help keep the water warm (and it does). It is fully fenced off for peace of mind and secured by a gate with a child-proof lock. The pool is available from May to September. Sun loungers and parasols are provided for your comfort.
At the back of the house there is a patio/barbecue area and table/seating for 8 under a gazebo. The rest of the land is mainly woodland.
Utility Room:
The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Cleaning / Towels / Linen:
Towels (including pool towels) and linen are included in the rental price. The property will be fully cleaned and prepared for your arrival.

By James on 23-Aug-2025This is the second time that we have visited Chene Bois. It is a lovely house, set in a beautiful area of France, with a perfect size pool. A great stay for families, our children had a very enjoyable stay, and spent hours playing in the pool. The house has all the facilities that you need and the layout is perfect for the family to spread out but to also come together. There is lots to do in the local area, such as visiting the chateaus, caves, the Dordogne river, and the many villages and towns around. The owners are very easy to deal with, and the process of booking was simple and smooth. Thanks for another great stay.

A great house in a fantastic location

The 2 bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs worked so well for us and our 2 grown up daughters. It would be perfect for 2 families sharing too. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was a god send as temperatures reached 40’. The pool was wonderful with plenty of space around to sit and sunbathe. There’s a big lawned area too for outdoor games. The house is so well located with so much to do on your doorstep. We only stayed a week but wished we were there longer as there were so many places we didn’t get to go to.

Stunning villa
By Rachel Kearns on 02-Aug-2025This is our 3rd stay at Chene Bois and won’t be our last! The villa is stunning and the surroundings are so peaceful. The villa is equipped with everything you would need and there is loads to see and do in the area. Definitely recommend the canoes on the river!

Lovely home with pool

A Hidden Gem
By steven hanagan on 12-Jul-2025We had a peaceful and relaxing stay at Chene Bois, a wonderful hidden gem surrounded by ancient oak and pine trees with it's daily serenade of woodland birds and crickets. The gite is a real home away from home, with it's well-equipped kitchen, modern appliances and plenty of space to comfortably accommodate us all. It provided us with the perfect base for visiting the many local attractions, although it was sometimes difficult to drag ourselves away from the beautiful private pool! An idyllic place to spend a week or two to unwind and recharge your battery.

Highly recommend
By Frances on 31-May-2025This property is in a quiet rural location, it’s very private and not overlooked. The local village is only a couple of miles away and has several useful amenities. The house was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with the added delights of air con and a lovely pool, great when the weather got very hot. The property is in the heart of the glorious Dordogne region and close to many of its premier sites of interest. For the energetic there is much to do on the Dordogne river and in the surrounding countryside. Highly recommended.
