Change-over day is a Saturday.
Due to the nature of the terrain at Chene Bois the swimming pool and large garden is accessed by an inclined path up from the house or the steep driveway. The woodland at the rear of the house is also steep and uneven. This makes Chene Bois unsuitable for people with restricted mobility or who are wheelchair dependent.
Please do take a look at all the photos to get a sense of the type of terrain on which the house is situated.
Outside: The property has its own drive and large, lawned garden. The swimming pool (10m x 5m) has been fitted with Solar cover to help keep the water warm (and it does). It is fully fenced off for peace of mind and secured by a gate with a child-proof lock. The pool is available from April to September. Sun loungers and parasols are provided for your comfort. At the back of the house there is a patio/barbecue area with stunning views across the valley and table/seating for 8 under a gazebo. The rest of the land is mainly woodland.
Utility Room: The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (including pool towels) and linen are included in the rental price. The property will be cleaned before arrival and additional services, including extra cleaning, can be arranged by guests either before or after arrival.

We spent an amazing 2 weeks at Chene Bois and we’re extremely happy with the villa. It had everything we could have needed for our stay. The villa was exactly as described in the advert and was even more stunning than the pictures showed. The outdoor seating under the gazebo had a stunning view over the valley, very peaceful in the mornings to sit with a cup of tea and relax! The pool was used everyday and when the cover is left on was quite warm to get into. Fans were provided in every room and came in very handy as the temperature was usually around 30 degrees. The garden area around the pool gave the kids lots of space to play football and badminton and just run around having fun exploring. The local town has an amazing bakery that sells the most beautiful cakes, and has a little bar, shop and butchers also, which was great to get little bits from without having to travel to the supermarket. The canoeing along the river Dordogne is a must and the route from vitrac to Beynac has some stunning towns and views along the way. We also saw lots of hot air balloons flying over the villa and even had some fighter jets zoom past which the kids were amazed at! The town of Domme is a lovely day out to walk around the town and visit the caves and is only half an hour drive away. La-Roque-Gageac has some lovely shops and restaurants where you can walk along the Dordogne River. We will definitely be visiting again and thanks for an amazing holiday that we will never forget!

We had a fantastic time at Chene Bois. The house was big, bright and comfortable, and the pool was superb - we used it every day. The location was ideal, with some of the best sights in the Dordogne all within easy reach. There is no harsher critic than our teenage daughter - and she declared it "the perfect holiday".

Our family of eight have just returned from France, having had a really pleasant stay in Chene Bois.
When we arrived there was a welcome pack of tea, coffee and wine. A nice gesture, thank you.
The house is fully equipped with everything that you could want plus plenty of room for everybody to do their own thing.
The beds were comfortable and there were fans in all the bed rooms which was great, as we arrived during one of the hottest weeks so far this year.
The pool is a must for my grandchildren on any holiday that we have, and they were not disappointed. It is a great pool.
There is a cupboard with cards and various games to play, After dinner in the evenings the kids and adults played snap, pontoon etc.
The house is well situated, for visiting many interesting places. A must is Castelnaud, kids loved it. Also you can kayak from Castelnaud-le-Chapelle to Beynac-et-Cazenac (or further up the river if you are into kayaking). If you do decide to kayak, the company bring you back by bus. Domme and La Rocque-Gageac are also lovely places to visit, As it was particularly hot, we visited these places in the morning then headed back to the house for a late lunch and a swim in the pool to cool off and relax.
There is a barbecue, we did not use it so can’t comment on it.
Wi-Fi was very good for I-phone, I-pad and i-pod users put not so good for the Samsung users!!!

Chene Bois is a beautiful well equipped gite in the heart of the Dordogne with wonderful views across the valley from the patio. It is a haven of peace and tranquility where the only sounds to be heard are bird song and crickets. We were also lucky to see a deer by the pool at dusk one evening. There is no light pollution so masses of stars can be seen in the night sky.
The gite is ideally situated for visiting the major sites in the area with Domme, Beynac, Castelnaud, Marqueyssac, Milland and Sarlat all close by.
During our stay temperatures reached more than 30 degrees so we took full advantage of the lovely well maintained pool. Two weeks just not long enough.
Thank you for making our holiday truly memorable.

"We have stayed in a number of properties in France over the years and this was certainly one of the very best. It is very well furnished with lounge furniture that was comfortable to sit on and a kitchen that was fully equipped with everything we needed. The provision of linen, towels and consumables was excellent. The gentleman who looked after the property was extremely helpful with any questions we had and provided some very good information on the local places to visit and eat.
We stayed at Chene Bois in early June. The weather was warm but not hot with sunny periods. Despite this the unheated pool was a warm 27/28C and most enjoyable for a swim.
Overall a 5 star property which we would certainly recommend and be more than happy to visit again."
