Getting there
Driving from Calais is 760kms and takes about 8 hours. (via Boulogne-Rouen-Le Mans- Poitiers- Angouleme). Or 6-7 hours from nearer ports like Caen from Portsmouth. You can even do a 24 hour cruise to Bilboa/Santander and drive 4 hours up to France to extend your holiday.
By air, nearest airport is Bergerac, but Brive, Limoges, Angouleme, and Bordeaux are within 1 to 2 hours away and are a pleasant drive. Fly with Ryanair, Easyjet and Jet 2 but there may be others from your regional airport. Rentals cars are available from airports and train stations if you prefer to take the train route to Paris/Limoges/Perigueux or Bordeaux for the same price as an airline ticket! You can book hire cars direct or through your flight company and their rates are competitive. Bergerac Airport has most brands - Buggs have been highly recommended to us and we have used most of them. Distance 45km from Bergerac, Limoges - approx 120km, Perigueux Rail Station – 10km, Nearest Ferry Port Caen – 530km. The drive down to the house gives you open roads with little traffic for most of the way - a welcome change from UK motorways.
