Description

Couvie is a spacious, traditional farmhouse with private pool in a peaceful rural setting, close to the village of Saussignac in an acre of garden surrounded by plum trees and vineyards.

The property has 3 large bedrooms on the ground floor; 1 double with en-suite facilities and 2 double bedrooms next to a large family bathroom with walk in shower and separate bath. Upstairs there is a dormitory style bedroom with a double or two singles with en-suite facilities.
The large farmhouse kitchen has a cooker, fridge and dishwasher and a separate utility room off with a washing machine and drinks fridge. There is a sitting room off the kitchen leading through to the converted barn with open plan dining room and further sitting area.

The private pool is 10m x 5m with roman steps and a large area with pool loungers and deck chairs. Bikes are also available to hire. Bed linen and bathroom towels are provided at Couvie, as are swimming towels. Cleaning and laundry costs on departure are also included.

The village of Saussignac is 1km away. It has 2 restaurants, a community café selling snacks and drinks, post office and tennis court. Saussignac is its own wine appellation with a number of very good wine producers within the village boundary. It has a burgeoning reputation as an “art et vin” destination in a region renowned for its food and wine. Close by (10 minutes drive) is Chateau des Vigiers, a beautifully restored 16th century chateau with a 27 hole golf course, spa and Michelin starred restaurant.

Other local activities include canoeing on the Dordogne river, fishing, go karting and horse riding.

The nearby small town of Gardonne (4kms) has a mini-supermarket, boulangerie, bank, bar and other shops.

The house is close to the larger towns of Bergerac (airport 20 minutes) and Ste Foy La Grande, both of which hold excellent weekly food markets. It is well situated for visiting the beautiful bastide towns and riverside villages in the Dordogne and the Lot. Further up the Dordogne valley are a host of world class prehistoric sites to visit, including the Lascaux cave paintings and the prehistoric dwellings at Les Eyzies. To the west, the city of Bordeaux is a 60 minute train ride from Ste Foy. Lots to see and do (including the Musée des Beaux-Arts and La Cité du Vin) with an abundance of restaurants and shops. The medieval town of Sarlat is at the other end of the same railway line. Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO world heritage site, is a 45 minute drive from the house - a beautiful medieval village surrounded by a multitude of famous wine producers.

There is an information booklet in the house with further details on shopping, markets, restaurants, wine tastings, places of interest and leaflets concerning local attractions

Wonderful holiday!

By Caroline and Robin on 22-Jul-2023

Really we would rather keep this a secret but had a wonderful week at Couvie!! Great, spacious and well equipped house which felt very homely. The pool was brilliant and many BBQS were enjoyed in a lovely setting surrounded by vineyards. Lovely local village, restaurant and vineyards to visit and taste. Hoping to do it all again next summer !

Wonderful place to stay - home comforts, stunning views and surrounded by vineyards

By Abbe and Paul on 15-Jul-2023

My family stayed here for a week this summer and we loved everything about it - we wish we had booked a longer stay! The converted farmhouse and grounds (including the pool) look gorgeous as you drive up the drive way. We were open mouthed as we walked into the house as it just seemed to keep going. It was very spacious and each room is very homely and welcoming. The traditional kitchen is well equipped and is kept nice and cook with the shutters. The beds are comfortable (made up as we had asked). Enough comfy furniture in the living rooms for us all and the games and books came in very useful. Outside there is plenty of furniture to lounge on and to eat breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the beautiful setting of the grounds. Watching the long sunset from the garden each evening was stunning. We used the fabulous pool plenty and it was cleaned once throughout our stay which was great. We made good use of the bikes to hire. The owners left extremely useful information for us telling us of vineyards near by, festivals to go to and other things to do and see such as canoeing and markets. The House is perfectly located to explore the local area - Saussignac itself is very quiet and we loved it. You can visit plenty of the local Vineyards (some very small, family run ones and some bigger ones) for a spot of wine tasting, tours and lunches - we visited several and loved every single one - each a different experience. Gardonne has a small Super Market and Boulangerie (among other amenities) and a lovely view of the river and is around 3.5 miles away and is worth going to see. Bergerac is a 20 minute drive away and is good for Markets, shops, restaurants and cafes and of course the airport. The owners also made everything easy with detailed directions, instructions of how to get into the house as well as a useful folder with further instructions for appliances. We will definitely be going again - Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful home in a stunning location.
