Overview
Description
Railway Crossing Cottage is a charming detached stone cottage, situated in a peaceful rural location in The East Neuk of Fife, close to the villages of Crail and Anstruther. The cottage was originally a crossing keeper’s cottage on the now disused Anstruther to St. Andrews Railway. It has recently been beautifully and sensitively restored and extended by us, providing a cosy and warm holiday retreat for you, your family and friends. A perfect place to relax and unwind. There are 2 bedrooms at the property, a double room and a twin/double room, and a lovely characterful open plan sitting room and kitchen/dining area. The sitting area has a cosy log burner, wooden flooring and comfy leather sofas. The accommodation is very accessible, as it is all at ground floor level, with easy access to the garden via double patio doors.
There is a private hot tub on the decking area, with wonderful views to the surrounding countryside. The garden is mainly laid to lawn and is secure and fully fenced. There is a second sun terrace for relaxed dining, with a wooden table and chairs, sun loungers, sun parasol and barbeque. We have ample parking for 2 cars at the front of the cottage. The property is dog friendly and has the added benefit of free wi-fi.
Railway Crossing Cottage is a perfect location for exploring the quaint fishing villages of The East Neuk, the historic town of St. Andrews and the scenic coastline of Fife. The nearby villages of Crail and Anstruther are wonderful for exploring, with their picturesque fishing harbours, great shopping, pubs/restaurants and numerous tourist attractions. Boat trips from Anstruther to The Isle of May are most popular.
We look forward to welcoming you to our lovely cottage.

Leave ReviewPerfect holiday getaway
By Harry on 27-Sep-2025As returning guests (twice a year) we continue to find Railway Crossing Cottage an ideal base for holidaying in Fife. Perfect well maintained garden for adults and dogs. Cottage comfortable and well equipped. Have no hesitation in recommending.
Bonnie Scotland
By Evelyn on 12-Sep-2025We wish we had never gone to railway crossing cottage, as we didn't want to leave. We woke up to amazing views of the fields and deer running about, our morning coffee on the decking was a must every morning. Did a different walk every morning with the doggies, they were so excited, even the little one, who's not a morning dog at all. Went so many places while we were there, all the beaches were spotless . Felt so safe at the cottage as completely secure, which was ideal with the dogs. The hot tub was the best, especially after a day out, it was great to get in and soothe the old back and hidges, the sunset from the hot tub was magical. Great Chinese in Anstruther, chippy great too, just 5 mins drive away, so good to pick up on way home from day out. Kitchen in cottage is so well equipped, better than ours at home. Basically, I could talk about the place alllllllllllll day long. Definitely, will be back next year .
Another excellent holiday
By Brian on 16-May-2025We last visited five years ago and were really pleased to find that the cottage is just as well equipped and peaceful as it was then. And as ever, the location is great for visiting all the attractions of the East Neuk. As a result we had another excellent holiday.
You will not be disappointed
By Rodney & Wendy on 08-Sep-2025The description of the property is very accurate and we were not disappointed. The main living area has french doors either side , decking to the left , hot tub to the right The central location makes it an ideal base for visiting local attractions from Elie to St Andrews.
A lovely week in the East Neuk of Fife
By David on 15-Aug-2025We had a lovely week at Railway Crossing Cottage. The cottage itself was very comfortable. The main living area is very light and airy and the double bed was very comfortable. The location of the cottage is among farmland and was very peaceful when we were there. The track leading to the cottage is rough, but is better if you approach from the Anstruther/Crail road rather than the other end. It’s fine if you take your time. I would be happy to stay at Railway Crossing Cottage again.
