Leave ReviewBest equipped holiday house we have found in France
By Angie Smith on 26-Apr-2025This is our 4th visit in consecutive years to this lovely property. I can honestly say that during 25 years of twice yearly visits to France, this is the best equipped and best quality property that we have stayed in - which is why we have returned again and again. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and is like staying in somebody's home, rather than in a holiday rental. The owner's, Charles and Marina, have been very helpful with clear, full details and instructions beforehand and have always only been a text away if we have had any questions. The neighbours too have always been very kind and helpful. The location is ideal, very well situated for hypermarkets but in a quiet residential street near the outskirts of Fontenay and only a few minutes drive to main routes and a few minutes walk to an Aldi supermarket. The view over the town is beautiful especially during the amazing sunsets. Fontenay itself is a beautiful old town with lots of historic streets and buildings to explore, but also with excellent pizza places (Antoine) in Rue des drapiers near Les Halles, and restaurants and modern services and shops. It is ideally situated both to explore the Vendee itself and further south to La Rochelle and Poitou/ Charente. Our particular favourites, amongst others, were the NaturPark at Mervent, the historic town of Vouvant, The Haras at La Roche sur Yon, the historic abbeys and castles, the Asinerie du Baudet de Poitou (rare breed donkey centre about an hour south) and of course the wine tasting in the Fiefs Vendeen is good too. The medieval cities of Clisson and Parthenay are also worth visiting. There is so much to see and do in the area. I can thoroughly recommend this excellent property.
