Cloister Park is in the hamlet of Frithelstock, which is surrounded by farmland and beautiful country views.
The nearest town is Great Torrington. Torrington is home to RHS Rosemoor set in a steep wooded valley, with a restaurant, tea room and shop.
The Tarka Trail is one mile down the hill. 30 miles of its 180 miles is traffic free between Braunton and Meeth, using the old railways of North Devon, perfect for cyclists and walkers.
There are many villages to visit on the North Devon coast including picturesque Clovelly built on a steep hillside above the sea, beautiful Appledore with it’s colourful fishermen’s cottages, famous Lynton and Lynmouth with the cliff-top railway and Hartland Point with its breathtaking sea and coastal views.
The diverse beaches of North Devon are not far away including; Westward Ho!, Instow, Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde, to name a few. Don't miss out a visit to Braunton Burrows, which is one of the largest sand dune systems in the British Isles. At the heart of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) it is a UNESCO designated Biosphere reserve.

Leave ReviewAnother absolutely FANTASTIC stay at Cloister Park Cottages
By Coulton Jones on 13-Jul-2025Another absolutely FANTASTIC stay at Cloister Park Cottages, our eighth year visiting this wonderful place and we’re already planning our next visit. The cottages are spotlessly clean, well maintained and well stocked with everything. Hermione and Steve are the perfect hosts, available on site, totally unobtrusive but always there to help and have a friendly chat. The location is a lovely village and the views are beautiful. A great base for exploring Devon. I highly recommend for couples and families, if rented together the two cottages would make a perfect place for family and friends to get together or for a small celebration. Freshly laid eggs are available across the road from the property too. Tips for other travellers Tarka Trail is less than a five minute drive away, cycle into Bideford and explore the quaint town. Rosemore RHS Gardens a few minutes drive away, absolutely stunning huge gardens which take a day or more to explore fully. Rich’s cider farm a short drive away as is the Glass Works where you can do a tour and purchase beautiful glass. Explore the coast, Clovelly, Hartland Point, many beautiful beaches, villages and towns. Supermarkets; closest is Lidl in Torrington. Bideford has Lidl, Aldi and Asda (cheapest local fuel). While there is no longer a pub in the village, there are lots of places to eat locally although we love to buy local cheeses and cider and enjoy them in the Cloister Park garden.
A comfortable stay
By Guest from Newport Pagnell on 10-Aug-2025Such a lovely location. Picturesque and quiet. The hosts thought of everything to ensure we had a comfortable stay. We wanted for nothing and the milk and cake was a wonderful surprise. The bed was comfy we slept like logs. Tips for other travellers We did our initial shopping in the Co-op in Great Torrington, not knowing there was a Lidl on the way out to Frithelstock. There is no local pub, so you have to go into Great Torrington or Bideford. There is no local taxi service so could be expensive. We took turns driving in. If youre looking for a romantic break away, this accommodation is perfect.
As always a very relaxing week
By Huxley on 15-Sep-2025As always a very relaxing week, plenty of places to eat and drink and loads of places to visit. Two minutes to the Tarka being great for the dogs.
