Description

Welcome to Roof Farm Cottage

Roof Farm Cottage is a delightful self-catering holiday cottage with spectacular views within walking distance of the quiet village of Gunnerside, Swaledale, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation and magnificent panoramic views from the south-facing garden and commands a stunning view of the River Swale and the rolling countryside with its walled meadows and barns. Converted from a barn in 2001 this peaceful cottage boasts beautiful decor and modern conveniences within a traditional stone built cottage. The cottage is adjacent to the owners own home to ensure peace and quiet during your stay.

Roof Farm Cottage is perfectly situated for discovering this beautiful area or just relaxing. The converted barn sleeps four in two bedrooms, has a bathroom with a separate shower room, kitchen/diner and lounge, with fantastic views from all windows. The cottage is fully equipped, centrally heated and has unlimited Wi-Fi - a complete home from home in the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is professionally cleaned on changeover day, all linen and towels are provided, together with all fuel. There is gated off-road parking for two vehicles next to the cottage. There is a no smoking policy in the property.

Gunnerside - five minutes walk away - has the Kings Head, a traditional Yorkshire Pub providing lunch and evening meals, a licensed tea room and a visiting fish and chip van on a Friday evening. In the nearby village of Muker there is the Farmers Arms, which also provides lunch and evening meals and a fine selection of local beers, an art gallery and Swaledale Woollens. Heading in the other direction, approximately one mile away, is a gastro pub, the Punch Bowl, in Low Row. The village of Reeth is only six miles away and offers further pubs, tea shops, newsagents, general stores, a garage, Post Office and many other art/craft shops. Keen cyclists can rent bikes from the Dales Bike Centre at Fremington, which is seven miles away. Those with a sense of adventure can visit the highest pub in England, Tan Hill Inn, which is ten miles away.
The village of Gunnerside is at the centre of Swaledale and is the ideal base for exploring one of the finest unspoilt dales with its famous lead mining history. There are an abundance of breathtaking walks straight from the door of the cottage, with The Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Path close by together with the newly opened Swale Trail which gives you twelve miles of cycle path from the door of the cottage.

Superb Cottage

By J & S Cuckow, Suffolk. on 05-Mar-2018

Our second stay in this wonderful cottage. The views are inspiring, the peace and quiet is so relaxing. When you stay at a cottage and think to yourself ''I would love to live here'’ you know that you have found a real gem. A comfortable and very well equipped place to stay. The owners, Rob and Sally, are so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the best places to go. We will definitely be returning, many times I hope. March 2018.

Excellent

 Date of Stay 19 Aug 2016 The description does not do this cottage justice- a perfect location within swaledale. Superb views. One of the nicest bedrooms we have ever stayed in. We visited with our two preschoolers- so enjoyed kites/dams/tiny tiny walks and poohsticks. We also enjoyed the Reeth Show and utilised the little bus service for linear walks. The cottage itself was perfectly clean and all the little details thought of. Especially kind details for the children. Thank you so much, we felt really well looked after and rested :-) My Response Thank you so much for your kind comments on the cottage. It was lovely to meet you and we are delighted that you found plenty to occupy two small children for an adventurous fortnight. It would be lovely to see you again.

Another wonderful holiday at Roof Farm Cottage

By Annick R on 16-Jul-2016

Leafing through the Guest Book we noticed that several guests keep coming back to Roof Farm Cottage and that is no surprise at all! We spent our annual summer holidays for two years in a row in this lovely cottage and just like last year we were sad to leave after two wonderful weeks with great weather and lots of walks, some of them starting from the door. We discovered the travelling chippy (great!) and also some great new walks. Thank you Rob and Sally for letting us enjoy this lovely cottage! and please do give our best wishes to our friends at the King's Head, we spent many a pleasant evening there enjoying the delicious food and the good company. My Response Thank you for your lovely review. It is such a pleasure to have guests return especially two years in a row and travelling such a distance. You will always be welcome and we will aim to keep the cottage as homely and comfortable as we possible can ready for your next visit. Take care and hope to see you soon, Rob & Sally.
