Description
Rock Cottage stands completely alone in a private acre of grounds overlooking the unspoilt Mawgan Creek of the Helford River and has been in our family since October 1954. There is nowhere quite like it! The scenery is tranquil and ever-changing through the seasons; there are no other properties in sight, so you will have Rock Cottage all to yourself. The open garden borders the peaceful waters of the creek on two sides, is steep in places but leads to a large jetty and the private foreshore where Peggy, our sturdy rowing dinghy is moored during the main holiday season. You may fish, kayak and paddle board from here or go wild swimming. Children and adults too enjoy crab fishing from the jetty.
The property is situated in an excellent location for exploring the Lizard Peninsula and within a short drive of 15 minutes you will reach some of the areas finest beaches for swimming or body boarding - we are spoilt for choice! Gunwalloe Church Cove, Dollar & Fishing Cove, Poldhu, Polurrian, Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Coverack and Cadgwith are all favourites. Fascinating wildlife to watch around coastal areas: see Dolphins, Seals, Humpback whales, many varieties of sea birds and the Cornish Choughs. Flambards Theme Park, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, St Michael's Mount, Geevor Tin Mine, Trebah Gardens, Eden Project, boat trips on the Helford River and to St Mawes, Penzance, Falmouth Maritime Museum, St Ives, Newquay and Lands End are a few ideas for outings from Rock Cottage, which is ideally placed for sightseeing.
The Cottage is beautifully appointed with high quality white goods and furnishings throughout, equipped and maintained to very high standards and accommodates a maximum of four adults with two children only. However, many couples choose to holiday here and escape from the daily routine and pressures. The home from home comforts together with its ambience, create a perfect place for you to unwind.
Whatever the weather, the cottage is warm and inviting as all rooms have full central heating by radiators and wonderful views of the river and garden. The hallway leads to the beamed and fully carpeted lounge with its original cob walls and window seats. Relax in the comfy sofa and armchairs. There is a grand selection of board games, puzzles and books as well as a Smart TV, DVD player and music system with ipod dock.
The kitchen/diner, with its amazing views, has all you need to make a family meal. A new AEG steam oven, Panasonic microwave, Smeg ceramic hob, AEG washer/dryer, 60/40 fridge freezer and a Bosch dishwasher as well as numerous cooking utensils are provided. Many guests choose to sit and watch the bird and river life with its ever-changing scenery from either the kitchen table or outside on the patio. Here, the morning sun is perfect for breakfast, coffee time, brunch and alfresco meals later in the day.
Newly renovated is the ground floor luxury bathroom; beautifully tiled and perfect for a hot shower or a long soak. During the cooler time of year, underfloor heating is set up for you and to keep your towels warm and dry, is a tall ladder style radiator.
Upstairs and along the landing is the Master bedroom with its triple aspect views. Here you will find a lovely king size bed perfect for a great night's sleep with top class linen and the adjacent newly renovated young persons bedroom. In here are two new 2'6" wide white wooden beds ( normal length) with thick comfortable mattresses. Both rooms have polished wooden floors with long soft rugs, solid oak furniture and a fabulous unspoilt view of the creek and beyond.
A couple of paces from the front door is the spacious Garden Room, which comfortably sleeps two adults. Please note this room is unsuitable for young children. As well as an exceptional view, the new zip and link beds offer the option of two singles or a six foot bed if requested but only if two adults are sleeping in here. There is also a wall mounted 40" television all complimented with white New England style bedroom furniture: combination wardrobe with drawers, dressing table, mirror, chair, bedside cabinet and overhead reading lamps. The view from this room is fabulous as it looks out on to the garden, woodland and the creek.
