Rock Cottage stands completely alone in a private acre of grounds overlooking the unspoilt Mawgan Creek of the Helford River and has been in our family since October 1954. There is nowhere quite like it! The scenery is tranquil and ever-changing through the seasons; there are no other properties in sight, so you will have Rock Cottage all to yourself. The garden borders the peaceful waters of the creek on two sides, is steep in places but leads to a large jetty and the private foreshore where Peggy, our sturdy rowing dinghy is moored during the main holiday season. You may fish, kayak and paddle board from here or go wild swimming. Children and adults too enjoy crab fishing from the jetty.

The property is beautifully appointed with high quality white goods and furnishings throughout. It is equipped and maintained to very high standards and accommodates a maximum of four adults with two children only. However, many couples choose to holiday here and escape from the daily routine and pressures. The home from home comforts together with its ambience, create a perfect place to unwind.

Whatever the weather, the cottage is warm and inviting as all rooms have full central heating by radiators and wonderful views of the river and garden. The hallway leads to the beamed and newly carpeted lounge with its original cob walls and window seats. Relax in the comfy sofa and armchairs. There is a grand selection of board games, puzzles and books also. The kitchen/diner has a large picture window, quarry tiled floor, small pantry and all the facilities one needs and for 2021 we have installed an AEG steam oven. The view from here is amazing too. Many guests choose to sit and watch the bird and river life with its ever-changing scenery from either the kitchen or outside on the patio. Here, the morning sun is perfect for breakfast, coffee time, brunch and alfresco meals later in the day. The ground floor luxury bathroom, beautifully tiled and perfect for a hot shower or a long soak. During the cooler time of year, underfloor heating is set up for you. Upstairs is the Master (king size bed) and adjacent Children's bedroom (two 2'6" wide beds). Both have polished wooden floors with soft rugs and a fabulous view. A couple of paces from the front door is the spacious third bedroom (Garden Room), which comfortably sleeps two adults. This room is unsuitable for young children. As well as an exceptional view, the new zip and link beds offer the option of single beds or a large double when requested. There is also a wall mounted 40" television.

Our rates are fully inclusive of electricity, oil (CH), bedding, bath sheets, bath towels, hand and tea towels, luxury toiletries, rowing dinghy (available from Easter to end of October), selection of buoyancy aids, baby bath, cot, highchair and changing mat, dog gate and of course Superfast Fibre Broadband.

Dogs: For a small charge of £6 per night each, we will accept a maximum of two obedient medium sized dogs but only when there are no more than four persons staying in the cottage at any one time. Dogs should be kept in the kitchen and hallway where the floors are washable. For reasons of hygiene and consideration of other guests, dogs must be kept out of all the bedrooms, including the separate Garden Room, the carpeted lounge and kept off furniture. A dog gate is supplied.

** Due to the extra cleaning and sanitising requirements, entry to the property is from 1700 hours. Departure is 0900 a.m.

**Short Breaks are available out of season. Fully inclusive rates. Please enquire.

**Deposits are 25% of the total rent and final payments are due on or before 60 days of the commencement date.

**A refundable good housekeeping deposit of £200 is required with the final payment.

What a fantastic property, I cannot recommend Rock Cottage highly enough! We had the most wonderful week here - everything written about it is 100% true but it's so much more than that. Firstly, the cottage's location is ideal - despite being a very short drive/walk away from Mawgan village, the cottage itself is fantastically private and there's literally nobody in sight in any direction. It has, without question, the best view possible of the tidal river and the wonderfully gnarly trees that line it - we were mesmerised, no matter the time or the weather. The avid bird watcher among us was similarly thrilled by the fabulous variety of feathered friends that were continually present. Secondly, the cottage itself is beautiful. It's in excellent condition and fabulously maintained. We were especially touched by the thoughtfulness of the welcoming scones, cream, home-made bread and many more treats that awaited us after a long journey to Cornwall - thank you so much Linda! Everything we needed was there and in addition there was plenty of space for all of our fulsome paraphernalia. The kitchen's vista is incredible and we spent a great deal of our time there, it really is the heart of the house. Every room in the house is just great, but the Garden Room in particular is also gorgeous and it too has the most spectacular view. Indeed, its being separate from the main cottage made it an ideal retreat for the 13-year old in our party! Finally, the privacy of the cottage really is its selling point for us. There's a great deal of land attached to Rock Cottage, which is so much fun to explore. The main part of the garden is on a significant slope, but the very manageable steps, the charming stepping stones, the different levels, the well-placed benches, the fantastic jetty and the excitement of the neighbouring wood make it an outdoor wonderland. Being able to use Peggy the rowing boat was such a bonus, as was the crabbing equipment. Wetsuits are highly recommended when swimming, but this is true of all British waterways! Also, wellies are essential because of the mud when the tide is out. There is no downside to Rock Cottage whatsoever - it's wonderful. The tides mean there's a limit on how much time you're able to spend in the water. Happily, however, the mud flats are gorgeous to look at and the plethora of stunning Cornish beaches are about 20 minutes' drive away, depending on which direction you choose. We'll definitely return! Published 8 Aug 2021

Cosy Cottage in Stunning Location

By Marianne K. on 07-Jan-2020

Pristine property in a hideaway location with extensive grounds including private waterfront and jetty. Rock Cottage surpassed all our expectations. The ever changing views from the kitchen and garden of the tidal river are mesmerising. If you can tear yourself away from the well equipped, cosy cottage, there is so much to do and see within easy reach. The nearby Ship Inn does excellent food in the evenings which is a 10-15 minute walk into the village. There is also a well equipped local shop here. 15 minutes in the other direction from the cottage is Gear Farm. Their award winning Cornish Pasties are not to be missed! Perfect to take on a hike as they stay warm for hours. We enjoyed exploring and managed to see all the bits of Cornwall we came to see, and a lot more from this base. The hosts have thought of everything and the treats on arrival were very much appreciated! We will return. Published 21 Oct 2019

“Peaceful, characterful and relaxing.”

By Miss Geog on 07-Jan-2020

We (2 plus a small dog) enjoyed two wonderful weeks at Rock Cottage in October. We were greeted with fresh flowers in every room, a tray of very welcoming and tasty goodies in the kitchen and a very, cosy and comfortable Cottage. We spent our mornings watching the ever-changing scenery of the Helford River. Every morning we were joined by a bird table full of wildlife, which were very happy with the seed provided. As the sun set, we enjoyed cooking in the kitchen which has every piece of cookware needed to cook up a feast if you really wanted to! Sleeping was easy. The master bedroom was spacious with an incredibly comfortable king bed. Bed linen was luxurious. The lounge was also very comfortable and with the stair gate across the lounge door we could keep an eye of the dog who, quite contently slept in the warm hallway. The total peace and quiet is really quite remarkable which cannot be described with enough justice. Walking around the beautifully maintained gardens and adjoining woodland, with views of the river from every angle, we were struck by just how quiet it was, with only the odd interruption from owls and foxes at night. Linda and Robin were very helpful prior to our arrival, with suggestions for places to eat and visit (always useful to have a locals view!) and during our stay, they were only a phone call away if we needed anything. It seems counterproductive to me to keep praising Rock Cottage, as I’ll not be able to book our next stay before long! It is clear the Cottage is the pride of the family and rightly so, we’re just so lucky the Dandys are happy to share it.
