Leave ReviewPeaceful location
By Emily on 06-May-2025River Cottage was a fantastic hideaway for us(three adults and two children). Everything as described but the peaceful location with sound of the river you can only understand fully when you arrive!! Plenty of towels, fantastically clean, Hope’s only a few mins drive away and sells everything you might need or have forgotten, cute shepherds hut for the children to play in…. We were lacking nothing. Finally our hosts were available but did not interfere-perfect. Thank you so much for a lovely weekend away!
Spotlessly clean
By Emma on 27-May-2025We had a lovely stay at River Cottage - a warm, spotlessly clean and peaceful cottage in a beautiful part of the country. Would highly recommend for a family of 4! Thank you!
Good Wifi connection

Lovely, cosy cottage
By Mark on 31-Jul-2024Lovely, cosy cottage, well equipped with good space indoors and outdoors for a family of 4 (with two boys 13 and 10). Great base to explore the local area, lots of excellent walking within a short drive (take care on the narrow roads though). We particularly enjoyed the Cat's Back walk and Sugarloaf near Abergavenny. Gethin and Glynis were very friendly and welcoming, we much appreciated the basket of goodies on arrival. Waking up to the sound of the birds and the river Monnow passing by was a treat.
Beautiful cottage in a location which nourishes the soul
By Julie on 29-Mar-2025Gethin and Glynis have a little piece of paradise here ar Cwm Mill. I booked River Cottage as a last minute weekend away for Mothers Day, picked because my grandchildren were hooked the minute they saw the mini shepherds hut ... and they really loved it, played nicely together all weekend. The setting is idyllic : woke to the sounds of birds, lambs and a babbling brook, no traffic noise nor light pollution here and absolutely wonderful walking country. The yomp to Hays Bluff was a challenge but views from the top were breathtaking. Hay-on-Wye was also charming with its castle and quirky interesting shops with friendly retailers who have the time to stand and chat. The open plan layout of the cottage is a perfect set up as it allows you to cook, chat, relax and keep an eye on the children playing outside. We made a wonderful roast dinner and all the utensils needed were on hand, Glynis even came round with extra trivets and a gravy boat. Kids loved it, we loved it and we have vowed to return as River Cottage is the most wonderful base to explore this area which has so much natural beauty to nourish the soul.
