Overview
Description
One can enter West Cottage through either of the two original doorways, now fitted with double glazed doors ideal for throwing wide open in summer. This cottage is open plan but with a cosy and traditional feel created by leaving the beautiful original coined stonework exposed. The staircase divides to the right and left, one side having a double bedroom and the other a twin bedroom, each with en-suite bathroom including large rose-head shower, upstairs also includes oil-fired central heating.
The sitting area has a huge oak lintel fireplace with a wood burning stove. The kitchen/dining areas are separated from the sitting room area by the staircase and the tiled ground floor is equipped with under-floor heating throughout.
The kitchen is hand Made with granite worktops, it is spacious, well equipped, and ready for your gastronomic delights, be it beans on toast or an afternoon’s work.
Originally part of an 18th century byre and granary, West Cottage has been meticulously converted to create a warm, inviting holiday home where you can escape the crowds and enjoy a tranquil getaway.
This really is a perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the good life – pick seasonal produce from the garden, enjoy free range eggs and Dexter beef from the farm or perhaps pack an easel and explore your creative side painting from the owners’ art studio just yards from the doorstep.
Tastefully presented in a contemporary country cottage style, the ground floor accommodation is blissfully snug with under-floor heating throughout, and features a huge oak lintel fireplace with a wood burning stove and original exposed coined stonework which adds character and charm.
The open plan layout benefits from two large glazed doorways allowing the sunlight to flood in or can be thrown open in summer to enjoy the fresh country air.
Special celebrations, events and corporate groups can also be catered for here, from informal suppers to barbeques during the summer months as well as workshops in everything from art, cookery, flower arranging and even blacksmithing!

Family birthday celebration
By Elizabeth from Huddersfield on 20-May-2025We booked all 5 cottages for a family birthday celebration weekend. All cottages were lovely & comfortable, and beautifully presented, whilst the grounds were perfect for lively dogs! Dee & Charles were the perfect hosts - there if we needed anything but not obtrusive. A wonderful weekend was had by all!
Lovely experience
By Marie from Pickering on 28-May-2025We loved our stay at Southlands in West Cottage. The experience of walking the land and learning about the local area whilst looking at it was wonderful. We found the whole ambience of the place extremely enjoyable and our hosts were friendly and available when needed. The cottage was clean and bright and offered us very comfortable accommodation for our short stay - we would happily return.
West cottage
By Nigel from Henley on 23-Jun-2025A beautiful cottage well supplied with all the necessary needs but a coffee machine would be a welcome addition. The hospitality was excellent and the welcome basket was a nice touch. We would definitely recommend this venue to our friends.

Perfect holiday cottage
By Peter from Gillingham on 25-Jul-2025This was our second visit to Southlands Farm Cottages and was a lovely place to stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. It is an ideal base for visiting places. We went up to Bamburgh Castle and down to Durham and Barnard Castle. So many lovely places are easily accessible from there. We will be back again next year.
Wonderful place to stay
By Clare from Cambridge on 21-Aug-2025We stayed in West Cottage which was absolutely perfect in every way. Really comfortable beds, great showers, lots of space downstairs in the kitchen/dining room and sitting room, beautifully decorated, wonderful garden and fields, with everything we could possibly need to enjoy our stay. Such a beautiful area and plenty of lovely walks from the cottage. I would definitely recommend Southlands Farm Cottages to anyone.
