Once the much-loved Red Lion (Bullards) public house — and before that The King’s Head — this remarkable home dates mainly from the 17th century and brims with original charm. You’ll find oak beams, two working inglenook fireplaces, an Elizabethan window, and even an ancient pair of shoes once hidden to ward off evil spirits — a genuine piece of local folklore! The towns of Holt and Fakenham are both 7.5 miles away. The North Norfolk coast is under a 30 minute drive away. The historic city of Norwich is also just a 30 minute drive.

Carwood House has a large dog friendly enclosed garden with two separate patios, each well equipped with furniture. There is a large BBQ and a large smokeless fire pit that catches the setting the setting sun. The gym is equipped with commercial standard equipment and is large enough to accommodate up to 6 people at once. There is parking in the front drive for 8 cars and there is also a dedicated EV charging station. (Fees apply) Inside Carwood house there is a large beamed sitting room with an inglenook fireplace containg a working woodburner
Check in is from 4pm onwards and check out is by 10am.

By Pascale on 31-Aug-2024Mark was such a lovely host along with his lovely wife and cute dog woody! we felt so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Mark gave us good recommendations, there were lots of garden games, indoor games and DVD's to keep us entertained. the house was so beautiful and so magically historic with lots of interesting facts, lots of character and space for our two small doggies Elvis and Lilo and for my two young cousins to run around and explore! From the lovely welcome note that came with milk, a lovely boule of bread and marshmallows to enjoy around the fire pit to the beautiful card popped through the door to wish us a safe journey home and to say they hoped we had a nice stay at the end was such a nice touch! Thank you so much again for hosting us and we would love to stay again! 100% recommend! ️ xx

During our stay, we felt right at home and spent the day playing the games provided for the garden, and were able to use the bbq and log burner with clear instructions. We all had a great time and hope to return!

By Sally on 11-May-2025Just got back from a 2 night stay with family and friends to celebrate my husbands birthday and can honestly say we couldn’t have found a better place. The house itself was spotless and so beautiful with great amenities and very well stocked to cater for a party of 11. The garden is huge and we loved making use the fire pit in the evening and the BBQ. We were lucky with the weather so spent every moment outside which was great. Mark was super helpful and responsive before during and after answering any questions within minutes. It was also the little touches that Mark and Jo provided that really made it special too with providing a great selection of goodies on arrival, a huge pie and decorations to celebrate my husbands birthday. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a beautiful place to stay in with excellent hosts. Thank you Mark &Jo, we can’t wait to come back!

By Vicki on 19-May-2025My family and I stayed here for a 70th celebration and it was amazing. The house is beautiful and really well looked after. Mark and Jo have thought of everything and nothing was too much bother. The bedrooms were cosy and beds were really comfortable and the bathrooms were nice and clean. It was especially lovely all being in the garden either relaxing or playing garden games. Being able to all sit round the table eating and chatting allowed my family to have some real quality time together. Just want to say thank you ️ I would definitely recommend staying here and would book again.

By Stuart on 26-May-2025Our stay was truly wonderful. The accommodation is of a very high quality in every single room. The garden, fire pit and patio give you no option but to chill out and relax. Great snooker/ pool/ table which are youngsters adored. Village is a great location and so easy to get to the Fakenham, Holt and the coast. Many good things have been said about Marks place already so all else I can say is they need to create a six star rating for this place. Thanks both From all ten of us. Stuart and Elaine

The host have provided lots of games for entertaining young and old. All the detailed have been thought about like fire wood for the fire pit, charcoal for BBQ. Personally, my highlight was the gym - all the gear worthy of a professional gym. Quiet location but still really close to Holt and Holkham Hall.
