Description

Llan is a perfect retreat, set in a tranquil setting within a short drive of beautiful Lake Vyrnwy. A fabulous place to relax and unwind from the stresses and pressures of daily life. Lovingly and tastefully restored by its current owners, it has a wealth of original features including wooden beams, oak and slate floors, a large inglenook with wood burner, a well equipped kitchen, modern conveniences and oil fired central heating. There is Wi-Fi, TV and a DVD player but for those preferring to make their own entertainment, a wide selection of books and board games.

The property has a large enclosed garden at the rear with a wild life pond and views of the surrounding fields and countryside. There are wonderful hillside walks directly from the cottage and plenty of places to visit in the local area including Lake Vyrnwy and the Vyrnwy Falls, the RSPB Bird Reserve, Snowdonia National Park, the famous Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, Bala Lake and the Berwyn Mountains.

For the adventurous there are numerous outdoor pursuits available nearby and further afield, including mountain biking, cycling, sailing, kayaking, horse riding, quad biking and white water rafting. Not for the faint-hearted there is the Revolution Bike Park on the door step at Llangynog (10 minute drive ) and Zip World Velocity, Zip World Titan, Bounce Below and Zip World Caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog and Zip World Fforest at Betws-y-Coed (all within an hour away).

For those in search of history, within an hour's drive there are four National Trust properties, Chirk Castle, Erddig, Powis Castle and Attingham Park, and the Roman City of Chester and medieval town of Shrewsbury.

For those wanting to spend a day by the sea, the beaches and seaside town of Barmouth can be reached in just over an hour and beyond that you have Aberdovey and the Lleyn Peninsula. Port Meirion, an Italianate village, is well worth a visit.

There is a well stocked village shop within 3 miles of the cottage and larger shops and butchers in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant (5 miles) and Llanfyllin (9 miles). Large mainstream supermarkets can be found in Oswestry and Welshpool (both approximately 20 miles).

A wonderful cottage stay

By Tracey Eden on 06-Apr-2023

Llan is a very special place to stay in a beautiful secluded valley. We recently visited for a second time! The cottage is very clean, cosy, and sympathetically updated from 18th to 21st century with no shortage of hot water for a relaxing bath at the end of a long walk, and plenty of logs supplied to enjoy a fire in the evenings. Welcome basket of treats and a supply of bird feed for garden was a bonus on arrival. The garden is just wonderful and the perfect place to be on fine weather days, with an abundance of wildlife to see & hear. Walking down the lane to collect fresh eggs always a great start to day. Climbing up the hill that sits above cottage is well worth it and highly recommend joining a section of the Ann Griffith river walk along the river Vyrnwy, starting at Llywdiarth. Harlech and Barmouth are great for a coastal day trip and approx 50 minutes away. Christine ( owner) extremely helpful and responsive.

Another wonderful holiday at Llan Farmhouse

By Jan & Derek Lovell on 10-Sep-2022

We stayed here at Llan for the same two weeks last year and returning this year we were still enchanted by this lovely home and its surroundings. The old farmhouse has been lovingly maintained and is obviously a true second home for its owners. The garden is a lovely feature and in the evenings a highlight is sitting outside listening to the owls calling each other and the occasional bleat of the sheep in the fields nearby. We have discovered in Llan and its wonderful situation in the Hirnant Valley a great place to relax and enjoy the local countryside and Lake Vyrnwy.

Peaceful place to stay in beautiful surroundings

By Barbara Davies on 31-Oct-2021

What a beautiful place to stay! The cottage was homely, comfortable and had everything I needed during my stay, I felt at home from the minute I walked in and my dog absolutely loved the garden! The cottage is in a very quiet hamlet and is the perfect place for a break should you be looking to step out of the rat race for a while and enjoy some tranquil downtime. There are many activities in the surrounding areas should this be more your thing and Christine has provided a well informed guide to what is available as well as everything you need to know about the cottage during your stay. The are plenty of walks in the immediate area and further afield, Lake Vyrnwy is a short drive from the cottage and definitely worth a visit as are the many other suggested places in Christine's guide ( Lake Vyrnwy and Saint Melangell's Church being my favourites) Christine is a friendly, mindful and considerate host, I had the most wonderful stay at Llan Farmhouse and am already looking forward to returning next year. Thank you Christine!
