Description
Horry Mill self-catering holiday cottage offers a taste of rural bliss – natural woodland, a babbling brook and walks in all directions. The Hodgson family have lived at Horry Mill for over sixty years, and since 1993 we have been offering a self catering holiday cottaThe cottage sleeps four plus cot, and is extremely comfortable, with oil fired central heating, and a wonderful inglenook fireplace.
We are located in a wonderful wooded valley down a half mile private drive next to Hollocombe Water, three miles from Winkleigh, and four from Chulmleigh, well off the beaten track. There is a spacious south facing garden, with a summer house made from home grown oak, and a terrace and BBQ for you to enjoy.
We have over 65 acres of woodland, mainly mature Oak, also an impressive stand of 60yr old Douglas Fir planted by Simon’s father. We also have nest boxes for Owls and Pied Fly Catchers.
We welcome two dogs, but please note the garden is not secure, and ducks and chickens may pay you a visit. Dog towels are provided for those wet and muddy walks you may encounter. On the farm we have ducks, chickens and a small herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle, supplying local people with our beef.
In Winkleigh we have an excellent general store, post office, butcher, two public houses, two coffee shops and the local Winkleigh Cider Company. There is a local farm shop within two miles.

By Jim H on 20-Sep-2025A chance search a while ago lead us to Horry Mill; how worthwhile that turned out to be !! A stay that ticked all the boxes for ourselves and two dogs. One would have to be wilful to find fault.
Handsome property.
By Darrem on 06-Sep-2025Horry Mill is a very handsome property with a good amount of space- it proved to be a very restful stay. An inglenock fire keeps the place nice & warm. On the whole it’s a nicely equipped holiday cottage in a lovely location & the owners (Simon & Sonia) are helpful without being intrusive.

By Hilary on 24-May-2025The cottage weaves its spell on you on arrival with its homely, comfortable rooms, a cream tea on the table and baskets of logs for cool evenings. The lovely sunlit garden with summer house is the perfect place to relax. There are wonderful walks right from the door with 60 acres of private woodland to explore, ideal for dog walks or picnics with many seating areas. We have been visiting for 17 years and hope to carry on for many more, it is our magic place.
Horry Mill Cottage is truly amazing
By Paul on 01-Jul-2024Horry Mill Cottage is truly amazing. A large, full free standing cottage full of historical details and atmosphere with great gardens around it. It exceeded all expectations. The cottage is located in the midst of forestland and fields and many public footpaths. And let's not forget the fresh eggs from the henhouse and the well-stocked library, including detailed maps. Sonia and Simon made us feel totally welcome and at home. This is the 1st time I can confidently say that I am looking forward to coming back.
