Overview
Description
Parnacott House is a comfortable country manor home of great character with a warm and welcoming spirit set amidst lawns, shrubs, trees and fields. Located 3 miles west of Holsworthy and an easy 8 miles from the beautiful seaside resort of Bude in North Cornwall, Parnacott House sleeps up to 14 in 7 bedrooms, two of which are on the ground floor. (Four bath/shower rooms, one of which is en suite.) Parnacott is a charming Grade II Listed self-catering holiday home, family owned and run - children and dog friendly. We are also a licensed wedding venue specialising in small, intimate weddings. With plenty of space indoors and out, Parnacott is ideal for family holidays, birthdays, special celebrations, reunions and small work/study groups. We are well suited to 3 or 4 generations holidaying together. We book Friday to Friday and for 7 nights during the school holidays - we can be more flexible at other times of the year, offering 3, 4 and 5 night stays. Weekends, or mid-week breaks are very popular. Parnacott is a great place for dogs, up to 3, and we can offer dog-sitting. Wi-Fi (Airband - decent speeds) is provided free of charge and available throughout the house.
Christmas and New Year are very special and completely enchanting weeks. Decorated for the festive season, right through December and into January, Parnacott is rich in festive flourishes; the house glows and twinkles - a magical experience for children and the young at heart! We welcome groups who want a late November/early December pre-Christmas break and there are usually special deals available.
The house is warm in winter - heating is included. There are complimentary logs for the fires. Moreover, with high celinged rooms facing due south and slate floored sections, the house is also nice and cool in the heat of summer.
The spacious 'games' room with pool table, dressing up box, dolls' house, small puppet theatre, toys, games, books and a smart tv (Netflix etc) is very popular, especially when the weather is being unkind to us
There are three seated areas indoors: the sitting breakfast room with its wood burning stove, the games room, and the drawing room which is a more 'grown-up' space with its open fire and views out onto the gardens - perfect for when the children, happily exhausted, are safely tucked up in bed. It's good to have space when there are 3 or 4 generations together!
Outside we have lawns for croquet, badminton, cricket, football, family competitions, fun and relaxing. Children can explore the grounds - creat dens in the woods - play and generally rush around making as much noise as they like. Our barbecues are of the traditional charcoal type - starter pack of fuel provided - complemented by wooden garden furniture and recliners. The hot tub seats up to 7, is extremely popular, is checked by us daily and is available from the end of March to end October. (At other times of the year only by prior arrangement and at additional cost.) In the open barn across the old back yard there is a Ping Pong table, body boards and beach kit including buckets and spades - all available for our holidaymakers. We have lots of private parking space in the old back yard and in addition can provide on request secure space for bikes, roof boxes or Malibu/paddle boards.
The North Cornish coast is rich in beautiful beaches, most of them sandy and great for surfing. Summerleaze, the largest Bude beach, has a sea pool - always enjoyed by young children as well as adults. It has a sandy shallow end; it is also good for 'lengths'. Surfing lessons can be booked online ahead of your holiday and are very popular. As the tide retreats, rock pools are exposed and provide a lot of fun for everyone. (Check out Life's a Beach - the cafe on Summerleaze, at Bude.) There are RNLI Lifeguards on all the main beaches during the season, and over the October half-term - really reassuring. Many of the beaches are dog friendly. (We can recommend Black Rock Beach at Widemouth; reasonable parking charges too.) Paddle boarding on the old canal in Bude is fun.
The South West Coastal footpath offers walkers varied walking experiences and many stunning views., especially when heading up from Bude towards Hartland Point. (An AONB) Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor are easily accessible - Exmoor too. We provide OS maps.
Although we don't have a local pub you can walk to, should you wish to have a chef come in and cook for you, we can give you contact details and you take it from there. You will be waited upon at table and the clearing up will be taken care of - what is not to like! This option has become increasingly popular.. Food can also be ordered in of course.
Parnacott is about one hour from Exeter or Plymouth and two from Bristol, and is ideally located for exploring and enjoying this very beautiful part of the Westcountry.
Parnacott House is a licensed wedding venue. We host petite, intimate and elopement weddings. Get married in the Georgian drawing room or outdoors, Spend your wedding night in the four poster. We can be very flexible out of the High Season: you might decide to book one day, 2 or 3 nights, or longer. Bring a few close friends and family - create your own day. Perfect for intimate weddings. By Dawn Miller on 14-Dec-2025We had this beautiful house for a family weekend in December and had the best weekend ever. The furniture, the decorations, the bedrooms, kitchen etc etc could not be faulted. An amazing atmospheric historic manor but so comfortable and welcoming. By Alan Noake on 02-Nov-2025This house is fantastic, with loads of rooms, and John is a great host. Our family had the holiday of a lifetime, even with showery weather. The games room and the barn were well used and trips into Bude (not far way), all made for a memorable holiday. By Alan Charles on 19-Jul-2025“Enjoyed a lovely week here, everything we needed kitchen wise to cook some delicious meals for our large group.” John and Rondi were very helpful and made us very welcome. Everyone relaxed from 83 year old to the youngest aged nearly 2. Added touches we're most appreciated and we all enjoyed the chocolate cake and strawberries especially. Highly recommend. - Alan Charles, July 2025
