Overview
Description
This one-bedroomed, ground floor garden flat affords lovely views over open countryside to the Bennachie range, a great place for walking, cycling and spotting wildlife. Close enough to the hills to gain access by foot, the apartment is also only a short walk through the woods to the village of Insch and its local shops and cafes. In the heart of castle, distillery, golf and fishing country, there is plenty to do and see.THE APARTMENT
Set in a secluded spot at the end of a private road, accommodation at The Drawing Room comprises:
• Entrance/dining area for those special candle-lit meals; north-facing to catch glimpses of the northern lights.
• Adjoining kitchen for preparing culinary delights or, after a hard day's exploring, just decant one of your favourite carry-out meals!
• Spacious sitting room with TV, DVD player, live flame gas fire. French doors lead on to the terrace from where you can enjoy the view of the hills.
• Large double bedroom with seating in the bay window – ideal for your early-morning coffee before breakfast – but you might be challenged to leave the comfort of the super-king sized (zip-link) bed!
• Towels, bath robes and local soaps and lotions are provided in the en-suite shower room (WC, Shower cubicle, WHB, heated towel rail, shaver point)
• Terraces and garden areas where deer, badgers and foxes often come to forage, and garden birds enjoy a splash in the ponds.
• Ample off-road parking outside apartment.
Minimum stay is two nights but the owners can be flexible on arrival and departure dates and times.
We regret that, being surrounded by sheep, we cannot accept dogs or other pets.
WHY VISIT?
Aberdeenshire is known for its historic buildings, from Pictish forts to the many National Trust for Scotland properties. The area is also known for its numerous whisky distilleries where tasting tours are a must. If you enjoy the outdoors, there are superb beaches and coastline to the east and north within less than an hour's drive where dolphins, puffins and other wildlife can be spotted. Inland, you may spot red deer, grouse and other moorland creatures. Cycling is a pleasure in Aberdeenshire with dedicated hill-tracks for the adventurous, and former railway lines for the more sedate. You can cycle on the old Royal Deeside railway from Aberdeen to its terminal at Ballater where the railway station is now a superb museum and tearoom. Railway enthusiasts may enjoy the preserved lines at Crathes and Dufftown or the narrow-gauge railway at Alford. For walkers, there is every type of walk imaginable from gentle strolls along river banks to the challenges of several Munros but you don't need to get in your car to enjoy all our local walks. The same applies to fishing which ranges from local trout ponds to salmon rivers and sea fishing, and also to golf where you can play locally or at a well-known international course. However, if all you need is a relaxing holiday with a good book or time to do some artwork or listen to music, The Drawing Room offers a calm retreat from the bustle of everyday life. It is a destination in itself.

Superb
By Ian + Sue on 22-Sep-2024We are just back from our second visit and had a relaxing few days in a wonderful, peaceful location. We walked from the apartment up to the hill fort and back, via the bakers for lunch while the weather was kind. We had a day of rain, but used it to chillax and read from the great collection of books in the bookcase. We’re fortunate to see a couple of deer just over the fence as well as the resident pheasant (has a limp). Will be back.
Out of this world!
By Wendy Davies on 29-Aug-2024This has truly been a retreat place for us. The weather has been favourable for walking in the immediate area, the views from the sitting room and bedroom are magnificent and remind us how beautiful this country is. We return to England via Pitlochry refreshed and renewed. Such a blessing - thank you.
