Description
Berneray Cottage is a genuine crofters, or fisherman’s cottage set in the small village of Kindulavig, Leverburgh, on the Hebridean Isle of Harris. Enjoy spectacular views across Leverburgh, with North Uist and Skye in the distance, surrounded with views of unspoiled hills, moorland and lochs and you have a truly unforgettable self-catering, holiday cottage that is stunning inside and out. This is possibly one of the few spots in Lewis and Harris where its possible to include a day trip to Uist. You can watch the ferry from the cottage as it meanders across the Sound of Harris on its daily commute.This delightful cottage has been renovated and is Tardis-like, quaint from the outside, spacious and comfortable inside. The decor is modern with oak flooring but has a nice mix of antique and modern furnishing in the lounge. The kitchen has every convenience, with a utility room. There are two bedrooms, both have king-size beds. The master bedroom has views over to Leverburgh, the second bedroom looks out toward the hills at the back of the house.
Two minutes by car takes you to Leverburgh the second largest settlement, after Tarbert. There’s a Community Shop, ideal for groceries. Find out more on our Location page.
Journey time to Tarbert is roughly thirty minutes but can take hours if you stop to admire the scenery. You pass miles of white sandy beaches on-route to the cottage, the colours are more tropical than you could imagine. No wonder it is classed as one of the worlds top islands.
Renovated throughout Berneray Cottage facilities include:
Lounge Flat screen TV with free Satellite.
Fast internet with good wi-fi coverage throughout the cottage.
Dining Room will comfortably seat four people.
Two bedrooms with luxury mattresses and bedding. Each has a king size bed.
The front bedroom has a 32″television set with remote control.
Bathroom - has an over the bath shower and is also fitted with an electrically heated towel rail and has non-slip flooring.
Kitchen - All modern conveniences including a dishwasher, a freezer, dual -oven, electric hob ,food mixer as well as a 28″Television set in the kitchen so that you don’t miss out on your favourite programmes whilst cooking dinner.
Utility Room - Great for storing muddy boots and coats. .Haversack also provided for going hillwalking or fishing.
Front Porch - Bar style table and leather bistro stools, the ideal place to watch the world go by slowly, Hebridean time.
Outside - Garden bench and a patio area with a six-seater table and matching chairs and a parasol., the perfect place to relax and admire the views.
A locked garage for storing bicycles and sports equipment.
The cottage has been fitted with the Scottish Government Interlinked Smoke Alarm System and the Short Term Let LIcence Number ESOO22SF.
The cottage is let on a weekly basis with a Saturday arrival at 4pm , departure the following Saturday by 10am at the latest and is available throughout the year excluding Christmas and New Year.
All bed linen and towels are provided.
The cottage garden attracts an abundance of birds using the bird feeders and can be viewed from the front porch. Golden eagles and sea eagles are frequent aerial visitors over the cottage.
Smoking is not permitted in the cottage , no vaping and no e-cigarettes throughout.
This property will not accommodate hen, stag or similar parties.
The area benefits from outdoor activities including walking, hill climbing, golf, fishing, sea tours from the pier to St Kilda, an island totally on the edge and a must for bird watchers and wild places. Kilda Cruises also do sea tours to the Shiant Isles which has an abundance of birds including puffins. Fishing enthusiasts can obtain permits in the village and embark on a memorable angling adventure. Sea fishing can be arranged with Sea Trek. .Harris Golf Club is less than a fifteen min drive from Berneray Cottage.
The main local beach at Northton is only a five minute journey by car. Take a walk along this beautiful coastline and enjoy pretty views of the Hills of Harris. There are a further two beaches, one has a medieval chapel. There are many other beautiful beaches with in easy reach including the world class ones at both Scarista and Lustentyre.
The Isle of Harris offers a wealth of attractions such as the
historic St Clements Church at Rodel used for weddings and celebrations or the Macleod's Stone at Nisaboist as well as the beautiful surrounding walks and abundance of wildlife.
Dining options include the local restaurant The Taproom and the Isle of Harris brewery down at the harbour . The Bothy restaurant is just a five minute walk from the cottage. The Butty Bus is also situated down at the harbour.
It truly is an idyllic setting for a self catering holiday cottage elevated high enough to overlook breath taking views of Leverburgh and surrounding areas.

Visited all the beaches, St Clements Church and walked to Northton Temple between rainy days. Lovely relaxing stay.
