Set in Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, it’s an ideal base for exploring the Jurassic Coast, enjoying coastal walks straight from the door, and visiting Weymouth’s award-winning beach, just a short drive or bus ride away.
Lovingly restored, our Victorian stone cottage combines original character with modern comfort. Set over three floors, it offers far-reaching sea views from the loft bedroom, a cosy sitting room for relaxed evenings, and space to unwind after days exploring the coastline, beaches and walking trails that make Portland so special.
The cottage has been thoughtfully equipped for comfortable self-catering holidays, with comfy beds, a well-equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi throughout, and space to relax both indoors and out. Whether you’re planning a family break, a walking holiday, or a coastal escape with your dog, Our Place in Portland offers a relaxed and welcoming home from home.
Layout & Accommodation
Ground Floor:
Sitting room with comfortable seating, TV, board games and puzzles — ideal for relaxed evenings. Fully fitted kitchen with everything you need for self-catering, plus a dining area. There’s also a downstairs WC.
First Floor
Two bedrooms on this floor:
One king-size bedroom
One twin bedroom, known as our book nook, with a small library for younger guests to enjoy
The main bathroom is also on this floor, featuring a bath and a large walk-in rain shower.
Second Floor:
A spacious double-size bed loft bedroom with far-reaching sea views, a calm retreat after a day exploring the coast.
Outdoor Space & Storage
The cottage has a private enclosed garden, providing a lovely spot to sit outside, enjoy a morning coffee or relax after a day exploring the coast. It’s also ideal for guests staying with dogs. Outdoor seating is provided for guests to enjoy the garden in warmer months.
There’s space to store bikes, pushchairs, wetsuits and outdoor gear, making the cottage well suited to walkers, cyclists and watersports enthusiasts. With the coastline and coastal paths close by, it’s easy to make the most of time outdoors during your stay.
Dog-Friendly Stays
We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs by prior arrangement (£25 per stay). The enclosed garden provides a handy outdoor space, and there are coastal walks straight from the door, making it an ideal base for guests holidaying with dogs. To help keep the cottage comfortable for all guests, we ask that dogs be: Not allowed upstairs or on the furniture, not left alone in the property, unless in a secure crate and cleared up after in the garden and surrounding areas

We loved the relaxed atmosphere, the vibe of the house, the seaviews and all those little details. Everything was very clean and Joanne and Dan were extremely attentive, and I can only recommend them as super hosts. We'd love to come back in the summer for another coastal escape with the family in the Isle of Portland. Thank you for having us, Diana and family @venturous.me
We chose to stay in this beautiful home to celebrate Ella and Isabella’s 18th birthdays and it didn’t disappoint! The location of the property is ideal to access both Portland and Weymouth and the view from the main bedroom is stunning! There is everything that you need available to use in the house, including the most amazing basket of goodies as a welcoming gift! The little touches made all of the difference including blankets to snuggle under, every day condiments and shampoo/conditioner and cleaning gel which smells amazing! As a group of 6, there was more than enough room for us all and we will definitely stay again!

By Maeva on 21-Jul-2025We had a beautiful stay at Joanne's place. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and peaceful. Big enough for the 6 of us. The beach is a few minutes away and the view from the upstairs window is breathtaking.
