Description

Built in 1716 Cresswell cottage is set in a superbly quiet position in the peaceful village near Newport with views up to Carisbrooke Castle. At the rear of the cottage there is a brook with seating where you can watch the kingfisher catching his breakfast. There is a small level patio running along the length of the cottage along side the brook, overlooking the old mill. The brook is fenced off and gated therefore safe for young children. The front garden is laid to lawn & flower beds where there is a patio area with a table that seats 8. There is parking for 2 cars at the front of the cottage, with additional parking a short distance further up the lane. There are numerous bridleways & footpaths through to the countryside, directly from the cottage & of course Carisbrooke Castle is only a short walk away, where in the summer months special activities are arranged for children. There is a village shop (Co-op) It is a short walk over the Forde and has a Post office where you can buy your newspaper. Outside the Co-op is the bus stop with a bus service into the Principle town of Newport for all the main shops. IOW is a network of small country lanes & nowhere is very far, including the beaches - it just takes a little longer! We regret that we cannot accept pets. It is not that we don't love them, we have children who come who have allergies.

CARISBROOKE COTTAGE

By SHELLEY HAYWARD on 20-Jul-2024

We stayed here for six weeks whilst we were having works done to our own house. The cottage was lovely. Very well equipped and very cosy. Lots of space for everyone. Very peaceful especially having the brook running along the back of the cottage. Really enjoyed our stay and didnt really want to leave.

Absolutely fabulous week

By JENNIFER WATERS on 01-Sep-2025

Absolutely fantastic week. Perfect cottage in a fantastic location. Literally could not have been better. We loved it! We went with our two children (8 & 11) and my parents so it was great for all ages. Beautiful surroundings and so quiet and peaceful. Nice central location so everything was a 10-25 min drive away! Would definitely stay again and would 100% recommend. Hosts were lovely and great at communications. Beds were great size and super comfy. We didn’t want to leave!

Wonderful cottage

By Trevor & Jan Wilson on 26-Jun-2025

Thank you for allowing us to rent the most wonderful cottage we have stayed in over many years of travelling in GB and Europe. The attention to detail you have arranged for visitors cannot be underestimated from the cleanliness of the home to the handles by the steps to the safety catches in the knife drawers etc. Excellent.

Lovely cottage in peaceful location

By Fred on 31-May-2025

Had a wonderful week in the cottage, equipped with everything you could want. Good for us as we're vertically challenged but would be a "headache" for tall people due to low ceilings. Truly tranquil spot by the brook, very very little passing traffic (well none really) a few local amenities provides most daily needs (Co-op and a couple of pubs) and Newport just a short car journey or bus ride away. Grandson loved playing in the ford. If you have a few mobility problems the narrow and steep stairs could be an issue but then there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. We visited in late May/June and even then at times it was a little warm. It could do with a couple of fans. Only real comment is the TV is showing its age, especially as having a young person with us we had to stay in in the evenings. Sometimes difficult to get the station we wanted and sometimes the picture was quite poor. Although it sleeps up to 8 there was only enough seating for 6 but for us that was no issue as there was only 5 of us.... Parking for a large car is a bit tight but we managed.... Having said all that we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Creswell Cottage!

Owner response on 01-Jul-2025

Thank you so much for your kind review. With ref. to the need for fans especially in the current heatwave. We will attend to that. Your comment about the seating. We actually take seats away when fewer guests come and add when we are at max capacity. So they are enough seats for everyone. We do this to give more flexibility to smaller parties of guests. Although there are 2 TV’s we do have plans to update the living room TV. We do not however subscribe to any pay channels.

Amazing stay in Carisbrooke

By Alex Ball on 17-Aug-2024

We all enjoyed our stay in this delightful thatched cottage in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight, it was nothing short of magical. The cottage provided a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort, making it an unforgettable experience. The Cottage: The thatched cottage was a picture-perfect retreat, with its little stream flowing past and cozy interiors. The cottage was immaculately clean and well-maintained, the seats facing the brooke, made enjoying a glass of wine or a morning tea a pleasure. The front garden was perfect for enjoying breakfast surrounded by blooming flowers and the soothing sound of the water. Location and Surroundings: The cottage was ideally situated for exploring the Isle of Wight, with the iconic Carisbrooke Castle just a short walk away. The castle's imposing presence and fascinating history made it a must-visit during my stay. Exploring the Isle of Wight: Staying in Carisbrooke allowed easy access to the rest of the Isle of Wight. We took several scenic drives to nearby beaches, coastal walks, and other historic sites. We also brought our bikes and body boards to make the most of being on the island's diverse landscapes, from sandy shores to lush countryside, offered endless opportunities for exploration. Returning to the cozy comfort of the thatched cottage after a day of adventure was the perfect way to unwind. We also visited Osborne House, Yarmouth, Cowes, Ventnor and Sandown, eating at some amazing restaurants including ‘The Hut’, ‘Smoking Lobster’, ‘Spyglass Inn’ and an excellent pizza at ‘Salty’s’. Thank you Ken and Gill for being super hosts!
