Overview and character
This cosy holiday cottage dates back to the early 19th century and offers the very best in self catering accommodation in Keswick. It is fully furnished and equipped to a high standard throughout, whilst retaining many wonderful original features.
Setting and location
The cottage is part of a small development known as The Forge, in a tucked away position close to the River Greta and the former railway line/railway path, giving it a distinctly riverside feel. From the doorstep, there are direct walking routes towards Latrigg, Skiddaw and Blencathra, making it an excellent base for walkers wanting quick access to the northern fells without long drives. The setting combines views of the surrounding hills with the sound and presence of the river, offering a blend of town edge convenience and classic Lake District scenery.
Proximity to Keswick and facilities
The cottage is just a fifteen minute walk from the centre of Keswick, so you can leave your car in the allocated parking space at the front of the property and walk to shops, pubs, restaurants and other amenities. Just around the corner, approximately a eight minute walk away, there's a Spar garage and supermarket for any urgent shopping needs.
Stay lengths
The cottage is available for weekly stays commencing on a Saturday during the summer months, with a minimum two night stay required at all other times of the year.
Living area
In the open plan living area there are exposed oak beams, reclining sofas and a log burner (initial logs provided on a seasonal basis), along with a smart TV and Wi Fi. There is also a small selection of books and local OS walking maps for guests to enjoy.
Kitchen
The kitchen enjoys a fantastic outlook over the River Greta with views towards Latrigg. The fitted kitchen is very well equipped for your holiday, including a fridge with ice box, electric fan oven with gas hob, washer/dryer, microwave and dishwasher.
Bedrooms
The main bedroom overlooking the patio and garden has a king sized bed, tall chest of drawers, hanging space and bedside tables and lights.
The river facing bedroom has a double bed, chest of drawers, hanging space, bedside tables and lights, and a terrific view of the River Greta.
Bathroom
The bathroom features a bath with shower over, basin and toilet. A combi boiler provides instant hot water, ensuring plenty of hot water for a long soak after a day out.
Outside space and parking
Outside, there is a patio area with a table, seating for four, and a small garden. To the front, there is a private parking space for one car (please note that no further parking is available at The Forge; additional parking can be found approximately a ten minute walk away).
Linen and allergies
Hand, bath and tea towels are provided for use during your stay. All bedding and pillows are synthetic, and the cottage is pet free and smoke-free, making it ideal for guests with allergies.

By Bebhinn on 08-Dec-2025We had such a lovely stay at Kevin's place. The cottage is a really lovely space, its spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, and very cosy and warm. We really enjoyed our 5 nights there. Its a great location for exploring the northern lakes, and only a 15/20 minute walk into Keswick. Would definitely recommend.

By Laura on 12-Feb-2025We absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. The view of the river is incredible. The cottage was well equipped with everything you needed, including small touches like cutlery for our little one. It’s a walk away from the centre of Keswick and there were various routes to enjoy the scenery. We would definitely stay here again and Kevin was responsive to any requests and very accommodating. Thank you for a lovely stay!

By Skyler on 29-Mar-2025This place is a perfect getaway. A wonderful mix of secluded and close to everything. Even when youre stuck inside, the location is enough to keep you happy, and definitely worth the price. Out of the way of tourist bits, but still within walking distance. Absolutely will be coming back.
