Overview
Description
High Barn is an outstanding barn conversion using large beams from 18th century ships. A second barn is used as a large games room with table tennis.Situated in a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Devon, it is just one mile from the spectacularly beautiful and unspoilt Erme estuary. Wonwell beach on the estuary offers vast expanses of sand and is perfect for swimming, paddling and fishing nets at low tide and windsurfing at high tide. Nearby there are more beaches and coves as well as fine cliff top walks. The National Trust path runs along the coast line and crosses the estuary, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with fascinating birdlife. High Barn sleeps up to 8 adults/children and is privately owned. During the summer it is let on a weekly basis, Friday to Friday. In winter, it is available either for a full week, or for a long weekend. Rates vary from £480 for a three-day winter weekend to £1450 for a week in high summer.

Leave ReviewA week at High Barn
By Claire Orme and John Macdonald on 12-Sep-2025We spent a wonderful week at High Barn with some of our friends. The accommodation is a delight with the bonus of a separate barn with a games room. The area is spectacularly attractive and High Barn is only a walk away from a beautiful beach. There are lots of places to visit and enjoy, and we and our friends had fantastic time.
A new holiday home for our Kingston holiday
By The Partridge Family on 15-Aug-2025We have holidayed in Kingston for over 35 years and we needed somewhere bigger than our friends little cottage for our family. So we found High Barn and this year was our first stay there. It was simply lovely! So comfy and homely and spacious. Everything we could have wanted plus a garden and a table tennis table too. We think we’ve found our new destination!
Relaxing Break at High Barn
By B Lawson on 20-Jul-2025We had a lovely, peaceful family break here - a very quiet, relaxing place to stay. The house had good spaces for coming together for family meals and board games etc - both inside and out. There is a lovely garden with outdoor table/chairs which gets daytime sun and then there's a nice bench area for evening sun. We used the BBQ a couple of times - great to have access to this. Kitchen was well-equipped for self catering. Useful information files in the house with details about the house and things to do in the area. Lovely quiet beaches in the area - some walking distance, some a short drive. Plenty of other places to visit in the vicinity. We had some great meals at the Journey's End Pub in Ringmore. The Dolphin Pub in Kingston is a short walk away. Cream tea at Avon Mill slightly further away. It was huge bonus having the play barn with table tennis! On a practical note there is also good wifi which was useful. We all had a great time and hope to return.
Beautiful house
By Peter Isaac on 26-Jun-2025High Barn is a beautifully converted stone barn set in the lovely and peaceful Devon countryside. The house had everything we needed for our stay and the secluded pretty garden was a delight. Although there were only two of us staying the games barn was really useful as it provided me with extra space away from the house where I could spread out my drawing books and paints, leaving them undisturbed. The nearby Wonwell Beach on the Erme Estuary is a wonderful place for swimming at high tide and for walking when the tide is out. The views there are magnificent! We were also delighted by the beach at Bigbury-on-Sea, a short drive away, where swam and walked and enjoyed the view with great coffee at the Venus Cafe.
Perfect family holiday home
By Emma on 14-Apr-2025High Barn was exactly as described, a delightful barn conversion that suited our family perfectly. Tim and Sally were very helpful from the moment we booked our stay and their lovely home was so enjoyable to stay in. The accommodation is warm and cosy, with a lovely garden that was great for sitting out in and enjoying the sun. The games room is an added bonus. A beautiful home in lovely secluded surroundings.
Fabulous location, lovely house and great hosts
By Vicki on 29-Dec-2024High Barn is a lovely converted barn about 1 mile from the sea. The house is welcoming and the hosts are lovely. We have been twice now and would definitely come back. Plenty of room for everyone, enclosed garden for a dog, in a peaceful and relaxing location. Highly recommend.
