Overview
Description
Set in a sheltered valley among the rolling hills two miles inland from Slapton Sands, a little further to the popular Blackpool Sands, Buckland House is an elegant Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse built sometime before 1750 and largely rebuilt in the Regency style as a gentleman farmer's residence in 1860. The house has received a complete restoration to a very high standard and now includes a conservatory overlooking the ponds and gardens with a view towards Dartmoor. Offering high quality accommodation for two or more families, tastefully furnished in keeping with the period of property, this lovely family home offers an opportunity to enjoy a holiday in comfortable surroundings. The entrance porch leads to the main hall, off which are the principal reception rooms. The south-facing sitting room has a traditional Georgian feel, with dual aspect windows that overlook the formal gardens. A wood-panelled den leads to the large conservatory overlooking the rear garden and ponds. The large slate flag floored traditional farmhouse kitchen has a door to the patio and garden. A ground floor studio apartment with small self contained kitchen area and en-suite shower-room with views over the duck pond and orchard with a door to the patio; also access from the conservatory. Large shallow staircase leading to a landing with an original Victorian curved stained glass window with views over the countryside. Upstairs there are 6 bedrooms, 2 with en-suites and a family bathroom. The House can be let together with neighbouring cottages for celebrations and weddings.
An area in the garden can be used to erect a marquee for special occasions seating up to 80 persons.

Leave ReviewA perfect house for a large gathering
By Jenny F on 15-Jul-2023A really wonderful property, very spacious and an amazing garden and grounds. Plenty of room for everyone to eat together and the games room provided lots of entertainment. A perfect location to see South Devon and visit some beaches and neighbouring pretty towns. Richard was brilliant with his communication. I’d highly recommend this property.
Fine big house
By Pete on 15-Apr-2023Fine big house for an extended family holiday. The house had enough bedrooms and bathrooms for our eight adults and five children, and enough other rooms to accommodate us all on a rainy day. The garden was great - exclusive use of a large garden of trees, lawns, and patio plus an outside/barbecue room and also an extended area with ponds, a hill and a lot of space. Some other reviews mention that it''s not all pristine, but that made it all the more comfortable for a family event. It''s tucked away in a maze of lanes a couple of miles from the coast and some interesting villages with shops, pubs and so on.
Christmas
By Angus on 27-Dec-2022House has plenty of character with its nice square rooms and spacious hall, landing and stairway. We felt the decor style added to the homely feel of the house, as did the log burner and open fire. The kitchen was well equiped. The house is in a nice, quiet location with an attractive garden. We were there Christmas week and the underfloor heating and central heating kept the house warm and comfortable.
Ideal for families with children
By Judy W on 31-Aug-2022It was very spacious. It does need updating, but having said that we didn’t have to keep telling kids “don’t touch “ the only criticism is that there is a distinct lack of mirrors with electric sockets near
Lovely grounds and traditional house
By Amy N on 24-Aug-2022Huge house with massive beautiful grounds. Was a shame that is rained throughout our trip but it didn’t matter as the house was big enough to accommodate. Could do with a little bit of updating, but this wasn’t a problem. We loved the bar billiards table! Really enjoyed our time, and Devon is a lovely place to stay. Thank you x
Beautiful Traditional house
By Michelle R on 06-Aug-2022Beautiful old fashions traditional house. Very spacious! Lots of room for the kids and adults. The grounds were amazing - so much space including lots of fruit tress too. Richard was brilliant, we even had a new vacuum delivered next day when the old one broke. This is a beautiful property, as an old building don’t expect anything too lavish and modern. The property would really benefit from a very deep clean but that would be my only slightly negative point. We’d definitely visit again.
