Overview
Description
Four bedrooms, two upstairs bathrooms, downstairs cloakroom, large kitchen/diner. The detached house has a private pool and walled garden and lies in a small hamlet in Charente, surrounded by fields and woods.Floorplans are included in the photo gallery. Towels and swimming towels are provided. Our changeover day is Saturday.
Charming, detached 19th century Charentais long house which lies roughly midway between the medieval cities of Poitiers and Angoulême, in the middle of a stone-built hamlet deep in the French countryside.
The area around our house is pleasantly undulating, with small lanes lined with chestnut trees winding between fields of maize and sunflowers or through small woods. There is virtually no traffic on the roads and the area is ideal for cycling and walking. The villages and hamlets have limestone buildings with painted shutters and pantile roofs.
Inside
The main entrance to the house leads into the kitchen / dining room. This is a large room with fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, induction hob and electric fan oven. The farmhouse table has plenty of space around it for everyone to gather.
From the kitchen, you walk into the living room with wood burning fire, three sofas, television with Amazon Fire Stick for catch-up TV, Freesat digibox to receive UK television, plus Blu-ray DVD player and Sonos system suitable for streaming from eg Spotify. There is free high-speed fibre broadband with Wi-Fi
There is a further room containing a cloakroom and a laundry room containing washing machine, tumble dryer and sink.
Upstairs, there are four bedrooms: the master room with king-size bed and en-suite bathroom (including bath with shower over), one double room, one twin room and one single room; as well as a large family shower room.
Outside
The south facing garden is mainly laid to lawn, but there is plenty of room to put the table and chairs in the shade of the mature trees if the sun gets too hot.
The gated 9m x 4m private swimming pool has Roman steps leading into a 90cm depth shallow end (the deep end is 2.1m).
If you want to go a little further afield and explore the region, our house is roughly an hour and a half from the sea at La Rochelle and about the same distance from the foothills of the Massif Centrale at Limoges. Angoulême to the south and Poitiers, plus the Futuroscope theme park, to the north are within easy reach. Saintes and Cognac, with its distilleries offering guided tours, lie to the south-west.

Leave ReviewPerfect relaxing stay
By Jean on 16-Aug-2025The house is immaculate & very well equipped for our family of 5 (3 teenagers). Attention to detail meant a stress free holiday. Generous welcome basket. Located in a quiet hamlet. The pool is ideal to relax beside on sunny days, there are bikes in the barn to cycle to neighbouring villages and plenty of places to visit a short drive away.
Wonderful home in a beautiful location
By Katie on 02-Aug-2025We have thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay at Peter and Sue’s house in the Charente area. The house is extremely homely and welcoming and very well equipped. The pool area is absolutely fantastic. The pool is probably the best we’ve ever had for its generous size and varying depth which was great for our two mermaid daughters (ages 7 and 9). Despite not being heated, the pool was so lovely and a welcome refresh from the heat of the sun. The garden also has shaded areas and is very private. The house has generous sized rooms, only 4 of us stayed but there would be plenty of space for more people. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms lovely and modern. Fortunately, we were able to keep the bedrooms cool at night with the use of the shutters in the day. The internet was great and access to some British tv was helpful for evenings and some quiet mornings. The selection of games was also well used by us - thank you. The house is in a delightful hamlet, which was extremely peaceful and the sky at night was incredible with no light pollution. The surrounding areas are stunning, with many beautiful Charente villages to explore but still very close (10-15 minute drive) to supermarkets and larger towns. The coast is only 1.5 hours away, which we would like to visit on another occasion but we found it very hard to tear ourselves away from the house during this visit. It has been a real home from home and our only regret was that we didn’t book for 2 weeks!

Comfortable rural well appointed house
By Mary on 10-Aug-2024A real treasure in a truly rural and beautiful part of France. The house is well equipped. The size and depth of the pool is ideal for confident and timid swimmers and the water was clear throughout our 2 week stay.

Great house for a family holiday
By Patricia Timms on 27-Jul-2024We very much enjoyed our stay. We found the house spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The pool was perfect for our young grandchildren and we also benefited from it especially during the hot weather! The local area is well supplied with all the facilities we needed and easily accessible by both car and train.
