Description
Four bedrooms, two upstairs bathrooms, downstairs cloakroom, large kitchen/diner. The detached house has a private pool and walled garden and lies in a small hamlet in Charente, surrounded by fields and woods. Floorplans are included in the photo gallery.
Charming, detached 19th century Charentais long house which lies roughly midway between the medieval cities of Poitiers and Angoulême, in the middle of a stone-built hamlet deep in the French countryside.
The area around our house is pleasantly undulating, with small lanes lined with chestnut trees winding between fields of maize and sunflowers or through small woods. There is virtually no traffic on the roads and the area is ideal for cycling and walking. The villages and hamlets have limestone buildings with painted shutters and pantile roofs.
Inside
The main entrance to the house leads into the kitchen / dining room. This is a large room with fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and gas/electric range cooker. The farmhouse table has plenty of space around it for everyone to gather.
From the kitchen, you walk into the living room with wood burning fire, three sofas, television with Freesat digibox to receive UK television, plus Blu-ray DVD player and stereo. There is Wi-Fi and a 4G router that can be used with a Data SIM card.
There is a further room containing a cloakroom and a laundry room containing washing machine, tumble dryer and sink.
Upstairs, there are four bedrooms: the master room with king-size bed and en-suite bathroom (including bath with shower over), one double room, one twin room and one single room; as well as a large family shower room.
Outside
The south facing garden is mainly laid to lawn, but there is plenty of room to put the table and chairs in the shade of the mature trees if the sun gets too hot.
The 9m x 4m private swimming pool has Roman steps leading into a 90cm depth shallow end (the deep end is 2.1m).
If you want to go a little further afield and explore the region, our house is roughly an hour and a half from the sea at La Rochelle and about the same distance from the foothills of the Massif Centrale at Limoges. Angoulême to the south and Poitiers, plus the Futuroscope theme park, to the north are within easy reach. Saintes and Cognac, with its distilleries offering guided tours, lie to the south-west.
