This stunning Westmorland barn offers authentic Lake District architecture with every modern amenity. Thornyfield farmstead is undoubtedly one of the oldest in the area. The house dates back to 1580 – additional buildings being added as the owners prospered. This barn is believed to have been added around 1800, its first existence on a map being 1860.
Beautiful detached barn conversion drenched in long stretching countryside views adjacent to the beautiful Winster Valley, just four miles from Bowness-on-Windermere. Boasting a luxury feel with pure attention to detail, this accommodation has been designed with the whole family in mind. Follow the winding garden and enter inside to the bespoke kitchen, home to an island/breakfast bar, overlooked by pretty lighting, perfect for relaxing in the morning hours.
A charming dining area lies close by with bench seating, ideal for enjoying dinner time meals. Wander up the stairs to the sitting room layered with exposed beams and plenty of seating, so you can feel right at home in front of the wood burner on a cosy evening.French doors open out to the patio and views of the garden create a peaceful backdrop.

By Jenny Wells on 20-Aug-2025We had a great week here with our adult family.The barn is well laid out with lots of private space afforded by the large bedrooms with ensuites. Both the kitchen area and lounge are very welcoming spaces and we enjoyed cooking and eating here together. The kitchen has lots of crockery and glasses which is always welcome when there's a lot of you. The hot tub is a great feature and the setting of the barn just lovely. We'd genuinely consider coming back

It is such a lovely setting. Beautiful yet tranquil, and a great base to go exploring the lake district. That said there are plentiful walks straight from the barn, with some fantastic views from the top of the nearby crags. The Barn itself is spacious, warm and very comfortable. We will no doubt be visiting again.

The barn interior is furnished to a superbly high standard. The place was absolutely spotless. We also had loads of room which was great as there were 7 of us there for part of our stay. The garden outside is lovely and the hot tub was really nice. We had a fantastic time and would recommend Thornyfield Barn to everyone. I will certainly be booking again.

The barn is beautifully furnished and has lovely garden with large hot tub great for relaxing and enjoying with family and friends . Highly recommend this property it is well worth a visit in a beautiful setting in the heart of the Lake District perfect for exploring .

The owners could not do enough for us and we were greeted in the barn with a bottle of processco and biscuits. The pictures don''''t show just how beautiful the barn is. The views from the hot tub are unbelievable.
