By Philip Kay on 19-Aug-2025Our stay at Thornyfield Lodge was fantastic. Whilst you have to negociate a single track road to get to it, it is well worth it! The location was quiet and secluded with really good views into the Gilpin Valley. The lodge exceeded expectations. It was short of nothing for your comfort and was exceptionally clean and tidy on arrival. The hot tube located in front of the lodge was brill and very welcome after long days out/walking. The view from the hot tub were very calming as the sun begun to fall! The lodge is in a great location for trips out around the immediate Windermere area and for exploring the wider Lake District. We had a minor issue with the TV whilst we were there but it was dealt with immediately upon reporting. The owners and their family live close by. However, they did not interfere are intrude unless required. The lodge is highly recommended and we were very sorry to leave after such a fantastic week. I am sure we will be back!!

We had a Very relaxing holiday, our beagle loves it here!, there''s plenty of walks around the area and windermere is only a 10 minute drive away. There was nothing better than having a soak in the hot tub after a day of walking. We love it, and will definitely be back to the lodge when we visit the lakes again.

Everything you could possibly want from a trip to the lakes - great accommodation that has plenty of space, cozy Log Fire, full ''home from home'' facilities and so private and peaceful . After a long walk (either locally or take short drives to the different Lakes Walks) its great to come back to the lovely Hot Tub and relax the body, enjoy a drink and watch the stars - magnificent. Short, pleasant walks in either direction for Pubs serving great food and drink. After our first visit in 2019 we instantly booked again but COVID lockdowns have gotten in the way twice but we haven''t been deterred, booking again for 2022 (note we are re-booking fresh after scouring options for next year and not merely rolling over a previous untaken booking). We''ve been all over the country using similar Cottages and Cabins, from Cornwall to Northumberland and Thornyfield more than holds its own in some great company; Sara must be extremely proud of this lodge and the other Thornyfield properties that are close by, as all are beautiful, sensibly priced for all budgets and sizes of parties whilst providing the perfect base to fully enjoy the Lake District or just simply relax without needing to venture far - the choice is yours.

The surrounding countryside and garden are beautiful. We loved the quietness and peaceful surroundings, often saw deer and other wildlife. The hot tub is a wonderful addition, perfect at night with a glass of vino, no light pollution, very relaxing with the coloured lights in hot tub. Great area for walking the dog. Set up outside for washing the dog with warm water which am sure he appreciated. Also secure garden for the pooch. Annexe with washing machine and dryer which is very useful for families, walking, lake district as obs rains at times. Owners were very helpful in providing Bbq when requested. Great location for exploring the Lakes

Away from crowded area, we wanted somewhere only us, that changed a bit when we had few neighbours ( deer) came around to peek over hill deer sighting was regular for us. High light was Hot tub and Fire pit. Beautiful place to stay !
