Description

Les Rossignols is an early 16th century stone cottage in typically Breton style. The ground floor is a spacious open plan area with exposed beams and a wood burner set into a huge original granite fireplace, two comfortable sofas, English satellite TV with DVD player, CD /radio, dining table with window seat and chairs, and a newly equipped and fitted kitchen area with built under electric oven, gas hob, cooker hood, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is a wide selection of books, DVD's and board games to suit all ages.

There is a rear door to the lovely private enclosed garden and patio area with table, chairs, sunshade, barbecue and swings. There is a lockable gate which opens into the gardens surrounding the heated swimming pool and terrace area.

Going back inside, open pine stairs lead to the first floor:

Bedroom 1 with a double bed, Bedroom 2 with two single beds, and a family shower room. The Gite is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils, duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels. Electric radiators are available to heat the bedrooms if required and for winter lets a large basket of logs for the wood burner.

At Les Hirondelles we offer you rural Brittany at its most enchanting: an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of modern life where deer and wild boar roam the forests and fields and all sorts of birds nest in our garden, including the swallows which give Les Hirondelles its name, barn owls (Chouettes) and nightingales (Rossignols). The skies are clearer and bluer – or at night the wonderful dark skies for star gazing and making wonderful holiday memories.

We believe that happy children make happy parents so we aim to be family friendly, and have a large range of baby equipment available at no extra cost together with a courtyard play barn full of toys, games, puzzles and books.

Our beautifully restored 16th century Breton Farmhouse complex is in a courtyard setting surrounded by lovely gardens including our large heated pool and children’s play barn. We are situated in the rural heart of Brittany in the historic hamlet of Rosquelfen very close to the wonderful Lac De Guerledan with it's lakeside beach and water sports. We are in one of the prettiest parts of Brittany, within easy driving distance of the beautiful Pink Granite Coast to the north, or the Gulf of Morbihan to the south. Make use of our guests larder and homemade cakes and conserves and fresh bread /croissant delivery daily to your door.

Our pool is about 36 feet by 15 feet by 4 feet deep. It has wide shallow Roman steps leading down into the main swimming area. These steps are ideal for toddlers and small children to paddle and play in the warm water. We care for the environment so the pool is heated by air source heat pump and we use a salt water chlorination system which is gentle on the eyes and skin so ideal for little ones. The pool is in it's own sheltered garden with secure gates and surrounded by lawns, shrubs and trees for your privacy. There are sun loungers, chairs, tables and parasols set around the pool and lots of pool toys and inflatables to keep the children happy. The pool is open and heated from early May to late September.

Bookable alongside P219310 Les Chouettes for a larger family holiday.

Very nice gite.prepared with real care and attention. Lovely quiet area. Garden and patio so if there is sun you will always catch it. Private garden as well a hared garden Pool.is great in its own garden. Pauline and Geoff could not have been more helpful. We would certainly return. They had a generosity of spirit which we greatly appreciated.

A super base for exploring central Brittany

By Simon Crabbe on 12-Aug-2023

We had a great fortnight at Les Rossignols with our two children (6 & 8). The pool was the biggest attraction for us with the gite being so far from the sea and we made great use of it - super for the kids that it was shallow enough for them to be able to reach the bottom everywhere, really inspired their confidence in the water. The gite itself was spick & span when we arrived and had everything we needed. Pauline's cakes and morning bread deliveries were a real hit with us all. We'd thoroughly recommend Les Rossignols.

Thank you Simon for your lovely review and comments. It really was a pleasure to host you and your family and hope to be able to welcome you back to Les Hirondelles in the future.

Great place for a break

By Emma Gunatilleke on 22-Oct-2022

We have just spent a lovely week in the smaller of the 2 gites here. The location is really handy as you can get onto the main roads quickly yet you are surrounded by countryside & within easy reach of beautiful canal walks/cycling. Really peaceful. The gite is next to the owners house so they are around if you need assistance with anything. Pauline also makes lovely jams and cakes which you can get from the shared larder along with fresh eggs from their chickens and other useful ingredients you might need but don't want to buy loads of such as oil & spices. Fresh croissants and bread are delivered to your door the first morning and you can request them on other mornings if you wish. There is also a brilliant creperie about a 10 min drive away. The gite has a new kitchen which is well equipped and has a filter coffee machine which is essential in France! The downstairs is open plan also containing the dining table and living room which has a lovely wood burner (perfect for autumn evenings), TV, DVD player, DVD's and books. There is also a games barn attached. The garden is a good size and there is a pool but we didn't use it as it was out of season. The gite is very suitable if you have young children as they have stair gates and equipment available so that you don't need to take your own and there are quite a few toys available for those rainy days, including a rocking horse! Upstairs there are 2 good sized bedrooms and a shared bathroom all nicely decorated & with comfy beds. Both rooms also have blackout blinds so we slept well. The only slight issue is the narrow tread of the stairs as they would be a bit difficult for those with mobility issues, however this is very common in buildings of this age so is not totally unexpected. All in all we had a lovely time and Pauline & Geoff are great hosts. We're looking forward to staying again and booking both gites so that we can take our extended family with us.
