Description
Situated in the small hamlet of Le Haut Fresnay, some 8 miles from DOMFRONT in southern Normandy, La Fermette is a stone-built, former farmhouse standing in extensive grounds, shared with helpful British owners. There are ponds and a stream, lawns and mature trees, and wildlife everywhere. You can see red squirrels, and birds of prey, and if you are lucky: hares, deer and even (rarely) wild boar! The peace and quiet is almost tangible. Our local village, Lore, with its small supermarket, is within walking distance. Ceauce, a small market town with a range of shops, a bank and a small weekly market, is a couple of miles away, and just to the north is Domfront, a mediaeval market town with a fine church and a castle. Also nearby you will find Lassay les Chateaux, with its picturesque castle, lake and rose garden. Bagnoles de l'Orne, about 15 miles away, is a spa resort set around a lake with a casino, many restaurants and smart shops. There is plenty to do in the local area, and information is provided in the cottage. Further afield, Mont St Michel, the D-Day landing beaches and some sandy seaside beaches are all easily accessible. Le Mans and some of the northernmost Loire Chateaux are within reach. Even Paris and Monet's garden at Giverny, are manageable in a (longish) day trip.
La Fermette is available for a maximum of 6 people (plus a baby). With 3 bedrooms and 2 shower rooms, the cottage is an ideal holiday property for 2 couples, or a family holiday. The ground floor consists of a large open plan area comprising the living room, dining area and kitchen. The cottage has electric central heating and there is also a wood burning stove.
In the living room, there is a sofa, comfortable chairs and coffee tables. The room is well lit by overhead lights, a standard lamp and table lamps, The large woodburning stove is set into a feature fireplace. The beamed ceiling completes the rustic charm of the room. Outside, at the front of the house is a small fenced and gated courtyard garden, safe for small children. A garden table and chairs make it a delightful place to have breakfast on a sunny morning. At the back of the house is a patio with garden furniture and a barbecue. This is your private place to eat outside, or just to sit with a glass of wine, enjoying the birdsong and any passing wildlife. The rest of the grounds are yours to enjoy as well, and there are several places to sit and relax. Or take your own garden chairs and sit where you wish. There is a picnic table too, in the valley, close to the "bug hotel" - another place for a meal outdoors perhaps, after a stroll through the valley and around the wildflower meadow .
