Laggan is a unique self-catering cottage. It has no electricity, and cannot be reached by road (the nearest road is a 3 hour walk or a 10 min boat trip away) so you can have real peace and tranquility - BLISS.

You must have prior experience with boats, outboards and running moorings - no landlubbers please.

Use of a boat and outboard engine are included in the rental price, so you can explore the coastline on foot and by sea.

Relax in the soft, romantic glow of paraffin lamps and enjoy each other’s company instead of slumping in front of the telly. Laggan sleeps five (as long as the fifth is either a child or a non-claustrophobic adult), and has much for those who love wildlife, the outdoors or just pottering about on the beach. Fresh air, sea views out to the Hebrides and small isles, seals, red deer, shags, divers and white-tailed sea eagles, it offers a fantastic family holiday like no other.

It may have no electricity, but there is a calor gas fridge (when did you last hear the phrase “I'm just off to light the fridge”?) and a calor gas cooker, so you can have ice in your g+t and a hot dinner after all. It has two wood-burning stoves which keep the house snug (and provide piping hot water), and when the paraffin lamps are lit in the evening, if anything, it can be as warm as you like it.

If your expectations are of matching his and her wash hand basins in the bathroom, and 5* luxury accommodation – please look elsewhere – the Ritz springs to mind. If, on the other hand, you enjoy your own company, a “Swallows and Amazons” way of life and breath-taking seascapes, you will be in seventh heaven.
