Description

The Boathouse, Gillan

The Boathouse Gillan is a lovely beachfront family home set on a secluded cove. The lane ends here and there is no public parking making it your own haven of peace and beauty. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, useable at all states of the tide whether you wish to swim, paddle board, rock pool, sail, kayak or fish. It is also safe with no strong currents.

The Helford area is a stunning part of Cornwall, renowned for its scenery and sailing waters. Gillan is an inlet just South of the Helford (on a calm day you can kayak round into Helford). It is a peaceful place as the lane ends here. The house is not only right on the quiet beach but also on the coast path so in addition to all the water based possibilities there is fabulous walking. The Boathouse owns the slipway onto the beach if you wish to bring your own sailing dinghy or motor boat. For those that don't bring their own there is a small boatyard in the bay which hires SUP's, sailing dinghies, kayaks, small ploddy motorboats... the possibilities are endless. Sail or chug or walk round into the Helford to The Ferry Boat Inn, the Shipwrights pub or the Holy mackerel cafe for a meal or just head straight out for a spot of mackerel fishing. Maybe walk the other way over to The Five Pilchards pub at Porthallow or the Fat Apples cafe (one of our favourites). Another option is to amble over to the Lavender farm for homemade cakes or a yummy cream tea. The shop is tempting too! If you don't want to go far there's plenty to do on the beach whether it be swimming, rockpooling, paddling, fishing..........Up in the Manaccan village there are two tennis courts so have a game and then visit the friendly New Inn for a drink or some delicious food. In the area there are fabulous gardens to visit including Trebah and Glendurgan and for the children pay a visit to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek.

This lovely property has 6 bedrooms sleeping 14 and five bathrooms. Upstairs there are 2 master en suite bedrooms, downstairs there is one master ensuite bedroom, a twin room which can be made into a kingsize, a twin room which cannot be made into a double and a dormitory room which has twin beds (can be made into a kingsize) plus a bunk bed (2 beds). There are also 2 large shower rooms with loo of course! Upstairs there is a large kitchen with a table that seats 14, a sitting room and a study. Downstairs there is a large games room with TV and snooker table as well as a utility room.

The house is right on the beach and owns the slipway which guests may use if they bring their boats. There is a huge raised deck overlooking the sea with seating for 14, a lovely private garden with 3 hammocks, BBQ, table tennis, seating for 12.

The change over day is usually a Monday but we are flexible out of peak season on this. The key will be found in a keysafe but full details are provided after payment of final balance. Arrival time is 15.00 and departure time is 10.00 but these timings are relaxed if there is noone immediately before or after your stay.

Driving directions are provided upon payment of final balance.

To book the house a payment of one third of the amount due is requested. The final balance is payable 6 weeks before the commencement of your holiday as is the £500 damages deposit which is refundable after clearance by the housekeeper

Utter Bliss

By John and Elizabeth, Cirencester on 10-Aug-2023

The Boathouse is a wonderful house in a stunning situation. It is beautifully furnished and exceptionally well-equipped . Excellent housekeeping. It was utter bliss sitting on the terrace, listening to the waves and watching the comings and goings in the creek and the sea beyond.

The Dreamhouse

By Simon, Portsmouth on 15-Apr-2024

Turning the corner at the bottom of a steep narrow hill, we were amazed at this Property. Situated right on the water, the Boathouse should be renamed 'The Dreamhouse' ! It had everything that a holidaymaker could ask for. Plenty of rooms, bright and airy, spotlessly clean throughout. A big kitchen for cooking and dining and just fabulous views of the water. The rainy evenings were spent in the Games Room having fun. It was a truly wonderful experience and I so miss waking up to the gentle sound of the sea.

A very special haven

By Trudie, Wiltshire on 01-Apr-2025

The Boat House. A very special haven, beside the sea protective cove. With cosy and warm accommodation offer sundeck and comfort throughout. Great host and plenty around to see and do. Special place and very loved by Suzy the owner.

Wonderful location

By Barrie, Nottingham on 15-Aug-2025

The Boathouse was a wonderful location for our family celebration. It is exceptionally well equipped for large groups, with plenty of space indoors, including a large kitchen/dining room, sitting room, snooker room and wet room for swimmers to clean down. Outside, there is ample space for parking and a nice patio area for the BBQ and table tennis. But best of all was the raised decking area, set just a couple of metres from the beach on the beautiful Gillan Estuary. The Boathouse has the perfect view of this sheltered inlet. We all loved our stay in the Boathouse.

Great Stay

By Jonathan and Eileen, Tunbridge Wells on 30-Sep-2025

We had a great stay in The Boathouse in Gillan last week. The location is amazing - the very spacious, light, and airy house sits in its own cove, and we spent quite a lot of our time just relaxing in the house, looking out onto the sea and the small flotilla of boats either moored just off the coast on or their journeys. We also enjoyed how quiet the location was - which helped us ‘switch off’ and really relax. The owner, Suzy Goulding, was very efficient in arranging our booking, and providing lots of useful information on local places to eat and some of the many interesting places to visit.
