A lovely restful week by the sea. The bed and pillows were supportive and comfortable, the bathroom was modern, and the kitchen was excellently-equipped (a better dish selection than we have at home!). The whole place was absolutely spotless: in summer 2020, we very much appreciated that attention to cleanliness. We also loved the sunny, peaceful garden and pool, and the front garden with barbecue which catches the evening sun. The owners left lots of helpful local information in the property, as well as charcoal and firelighters for the barbecue (a welcome touch!). They communicated regularly with us, both before and during our stay, to answer any questions and so we understood clearly the special measures in place over the pandemic period. In the mornings we enjoyed the 20-minute stroll along the side of the lagoon to the boulangeries in the old town, and the supermarket was just a five-minute drive away. The endless beach and multiple vineyards were within a ten-minute drive too. In the evening we walked or drove to the picturesque port or old town for dinner - favourites were La Pacheline, Table d'Emilie and, of course, oysters at La Cabane.
We had a great stay at Derek & Lisa's Villa. The location was in a quiet suburb and a short drive to everything you could need. The beaches are beautiful and Derek gave us great tips on where to go to avoid the crowds and where to eat and suggestions on things to do. TIP: if you want to do the wakeboard zipline near town then you need to book a time beforehand as it is very popular. It was wonderful to end the day with a dip in the pool. Under COVID it was also just fine to have a day at home, reading a book by the poolside. It was much appreciated that the kitchen had everything you needed for those stay at home meals. The house is well kept. The house is spacious and great that our 2 teenagers each had their own room. Tips would be to put some bug screens in as the kids wouldn’t open the windows at night due to the few mosquitos or to have the air conditioning on longer at night depending on the weather.
Villa Belles de Mai is perfectly located for our southern France holiday needs. It is walking distance to Marseillan and Marseillan Plage (if you are willing to walk 3 miles along the lovely canal) and located at the end of a residential street providing a quiet oasis. Marseillan offers many delicious food and drink choices and don't forget to take a tour of Noilly Prat. We especially enjoyed using the private pool to cool off after a day out walking in the heat. Derek and Lisa were readily available to answer any questions or provide any advice on local amenities/attractions.
