Leave ReviewA lovely peaceful retreat in a great location for exploring or resting
By Daniel & Jo on 13-Jul-2025A lovely little cottage in excellent grounds. The location is quiet and peaceful, and just a few minutes' drive from local shops and facilities. Every day we enjoyed returning to the cottage after a morning exploring local villages or towns, to spend our afternoons resting by the pool in the large garden. Personally I loved being able to explore the grounds, head down to the on-site lake to sit and think or read in a very rural setting. The property is also on some great hiking or running trails, easily accessed. The kitchen has everything you need, and we enjoyed using the BBQ outside on most evenings. Rosemary is a lovely host, who lives in the adjacent house on site and was always ready to recommend local activities and help us make the most of seasonal events - thank you Rosemary!
Relaxing experience of rural France in idilic surroundings
By Mike Cordina on 08-Jul-2025Pulling off the autoroute and into the French countrside on an idilic summers evening. Driving through beautiful French villages of golden glowing stonework and painted shutters, just on the other side of the lovely town of Marval we pulled into the drive of our accomodation for the week. The quiet of the countryside only broken by the sound of tyres on the gravel drive, the birds and the gentle breeze in the trees. The stunning landscape of the lovely, well maintained gardens with the cool blue private pool stretches out ahead of you with the woodlands and the fishing lake in the distance. The cottage is a cosy one up one down with a double bedroom en-suite with plenty of room to unpack and stash the suitcases. The dark wooden beams and stone walls are authentic and the large, thoughtfully meshed, windows allow the light and cool breeze in but the bugs at bay. The en-suite has all you would need including a good shower to freshen up in the mornings and rince off after the lazy hours in and around the pool. Downstairs is a kitchen dining room with TV and a music centre with radio and CD if you want some music. The kitchen is well equiped and has plenty of storage space for stocking up at the local Intermarche (or Lydl if you want more familarity) and settling in for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The local village has a lovely shop and Boulangerie for sudden essentials. I could go on and on bestowing the vertues of our now not so secret find. The surroundings are stunning, With towns, villages, lakes with beaches all around. The local markets are fun as are the towns of Nontron and if you really need a Starbucks and the sence of city life Limoges is a short drive away. I can not recommend this beautiful, idilic country retreat enough. The accomodation is wonderful, the surrrounding area all you could want from rural France and Rosemary the owner is delightful. Welcoming, charming, very knowledgeable of the area and always helpful. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. It was too short and we were sad to leave. We will be returning next year I am sure.
