Overview
Description
A former isolation hospital, which has also been a rope mill and a dairy. It's a great place for a gathering with friends or family - ideal for birthday and anniversary celebrations... Within an easy walk of Masham (15 mins across fields), and with lots of outdoor space and the nature reserve literally on the doorstep. The house is spacious and well equipped. It has been a major renovation project and has retained its quirks and character as well as gaining some warmth and comfort! We're not 100% there yet, and are delighted to be using funds from our guests to keep going with improvements, so thank you for helping us get there!
Guests enjoy the large kitchen, with old range cooker (sadly not functioning, but adds to the ambience). We're big cooking fans, so the kitchen is well equipped with most mod cons (big cooker, big fridge and freezer, wine fridge, KitchenAid mixer, bread maker, etc etc - let us know if you've got a specific cooking requirement in mind)
There are five bedrooms, four of which are ensuite:
1. Big room, king size bed, en suite bathroom with bath and shower (can add single z bed here if needed)
2. Double bed with a single high bunk. Bohemian style decor with House of Hackney influences. This room is not ensuite. Again, room for further z bed in here if required.
3. King size room (THE most comfy bed!) With ensuite shower room.
4. 'Harry Potter' room (see pics). Zip and link beds which can be superking size or twin (please let us know which you'd prefer. You can sleep up to three in this room at a push, with a small trundle bed added). Ensuite bathroom (bath with shower over)
5. Double room, with pallet-wood feature wall. Ensuite bathroom (bath with shower over)
The house is set in a garden of 1/3 of an acre.
Marfield Wetlands literally on the doorstep.
Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors within easy reach.
Masham itself has pubs, restaurants, independent shops and two breweries (Theakston and Black Sheep).
Forbidden Corner (unique visitor attraction) 15 mins
Hackfall Woods 5 mins
Druids Temple 10 mins
Jervaulx Abbely 5 mins

Leave ReviewWould definitely stay again
By Gemma on 10-Sep-2025The listing looked nice but the reality was even better! What a beautiful house and garden in a peaceful and gorgeous place. It was a lovely walk across the fields into Masham. Lost count of the number of birds (including a cheeky pheasant) and squirrels on the garden. Kitchen was enormous woth piped music throughout the house. the staircase was grand, so many books to browse through. Gorgeous bedrooms with pristine bedding. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Amazing place
By Bheem on 26-May-2025This was an amazing place - we felt right at home. We were four families travelling to do do Yorkshire 3 peaks and chose Masham as our base. The place was just ideal and the house was amazing and extremely well kept with everything that one could imagine being around. Carolyn and Steve are true super hosts and were extremely proactive and helpful. Cant thank them enough. Would love to stay here again for sure.
Yearly get together
By Holly-Ann on 29-Jun-2025From booking the house, Carolyn was very responsive and helpful with advice and tips of things to do in the area and answered any questions I had. This was a booking for a yearly friends get together. The house and surroundings were beautiful - the photos don't do it justice - it's even better! Plenty of outdoor and indoor games. Great kitchen and bbq and garden. Very comfy beds and clean bathrooms. Short 10 minute walk to the centre if masham which has lovely cafes and pubs. Perfect getaway for family and friends. We'll be back! Thank you :)
Group of friends
By Asa on 13-Jul-2025We had a great time staying at Carolyn and Steve's place. We stayed as a group of eight friends with four children ranging between ages of 1 and 6. Carolyn was very keen to make us feel welcome and also to make the space safe for soon-to-be toddlers. We arrived during a heat wave and the large grass area at the back of the house was perfect for the children to play in in the shade. The house generally really exceeded what we were expecting - all of us commented that the existing photos don't do it justice! Carolyn was very responsive and gave us lots of advice and information but also left us to do our own thing. A great place which we'll definitely return to.
