Overview
Description
For inquiries about New Cottage contact Kate WilliamsNew Cottage is one of eight stone cottages clustered round a courtyard on the hillside above Mawgan Porth on the north Cornish coast, a 5-10 minute walk to the sandy beach and cliffs. The cottages look down over the Lanherne valley, with the sea in the background. The views from the coastal path along the cliffs are of course stunning in every season.
The cottage
.... is light, comfortable and well equipped with a fully equipped kitchen/diner open to the living room with comfy sofas and a woodburner. We have books, maps, indoor and outdoor games for your use. It sleeps 6 with three double bedrooms: the downstairs bedroom has a double bed and the upstairs bedrooms have single beds that can be made up as doubles. The cottage offers flexible accommodation for couples, groups of friends and children and families. Bedlinen is provided but we ask you to bring towels for bath and beach.
Please NO SMOKING in the cottage and no dogs.
Outside
The courtyard and grassy play area at the back are shared by the cottages. The courtyard is enclosed with a little gate and is well used by smaller children (under parents' supervision), especially the small swings and the Wendy house. The large communal natural play space at the back of the cottage has plenty of space to run around in and the ping pong room is just behind the cottage. The logstore (help yourself) is also behind the cottage. The laundry is also shared by the cottages.
The cottage has one designated parking space.
Practicalities
Changeover: in busy periods, our changeover day is Sunday (much better on the roads!). We have more flexibility outside these times.
Minimum booking: 7 nights at peak times and 3 nights at other times . The Prices table shows the rate per night.
The beach, coast and local walks
Mawgan Porth beach is a wonderful, sandy beach with cliffs and rocks at the sides, a huge expanse of sand at low tide and it's great for families and surfers. It is life guarded through the summer May - October.
The North Cornwall Coastal Path with its stunning views is 10 minutes away: east to Bedruthan Steps (with a National Trust cafe) and on towards Padstow; west to Watergate Bay with is long expanse of sand at low tide, and surf, then on towards Newquay. Several short walks leave directly from the cottage, each leading to a spot for a bite or a coffee.
Eating out locally
- Mawgan Porth by the beach has several cafes / restaurants including Catch and the Merrymoor (good pub food).
- Watergate Bay has several great options.
.... and you'll find more ....
Shops and amenities
- Mawgan Porth has a well stocked convenience store with fresh bread and pasties; a newsagent/ beach shop; surf school (King Surf), surf shop and mini golf
- Newquay has a range of amenities and shops: top surfing beaches, surf shops, supermarkets (Morrissons, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsburys)
- Golf: several in the area including Merlin Golf Club nearby.

Just wonderful
By Clare W on 15-Jun-2015Our stay here was just wonderful! With a 10min walk to the beach (we had a toddler, so it may be faster!), we spent a very happy week here. The property is well equipped and of high standard. It was clean and well cared for. Leading up to our stay the owner contacted us to make sure we knew where everything would be. I would highly recommend this cottage, not only for the location and the quality of where we stayed, but on the care and attention shown to us by the owner. We look forward to coming back next year!!!
Amazing as ever
By Lou H on 16-Oct-2016All amazing as ever, we've had a brilliant time, hopefully back in the summer.
Welcome woodburner
By Nadia Thornhill on 24-Jun-2017My husband, our two year old daughter and I stayed in New cottage for three nights in early June. The cottage was beautiful, immaculately clean, and there was even a fire built for us in the wood burner so we just had to light it and relax on the first evening. The kitchen was fully equipped; there was even baby plates and cutlery, and the owners had left us a lovely bottle of red wine on the dining table as a treat. The beds are comfy and the black out blinds were amazing and meant we slept so well! There is a cot and high chair so we didn't need to bring ours from home which was so helpful. The cottage has a pretty garden, use of a ping pong table, swings and zip wire, and the local beach is 10 minutes walk or 3 mins drive. There's several good restaurants, a fish and chip shop, a grocery store and some cafes within walking distance too, although the hill is steep on the walk home! The cottage is perfectly located for visiting the Eden project and Lost Gardens of Heligan and close to Newquay, Padstow and many other lovely beaches. We highly recommend this cottage and hope to stay there again soon
