Overview
Description
We are located in the small pretty village of La Bastide de Bousignac, very close to the stunning medieval market town of Mirepoix in Ariege, France. Mirepoix is a 5 minute car journey away, with its renowned Monday morning market in the main square and, along with a large supermarket, a great selection of shops and restaurants. Events take place all year round in the main square, so it's worth checking with the Mirepoix Tourist Office to see what's happening during your stay. (www.tourisme-mirepoix.com)Mirepoix is ideally situated offering easy access to Toulouse, Castelnaudary and the World Heritage Site of Carcassonne. The local countryside is peppered with Cathar Castles such as Montsegur and picturesque villages dating back to Medieval times. The Canal du Midi is 30 minutes away and you can reach the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne in about 90 minutes. Within fifteen minutes of the house is the stunning Lac Montbel where you can relax by the water or hire a boat for an hour or two. We also have an international go-karting track about ten minutes drive away. During the Winter months the small Pyrenean resort of Les Monts D'Olmes is only 45 minutes by car.
There are many local events throughout the Summer, including evening food markets and themed weekends in Mirepoix.
The house itself is finished in a clean, modern style, offering five bedrooms which can sleep up to ten people (3 double rooms, 1 bunk room and 1 twin bedded room). There are three bathrooms (One has a shower and the other two have baths with separate showers). Downstairs there is a fully equipped large kitchen / dining room which seats 10 with all the usual appliances you would expect, together with a utility area with washing machine etc and a downstairs loo. There is a separate large comfortable sitting room which has French windows opening out onto the garden. WiFi is available via the latest Orange Fibre Broadband.
The second half of the garden is securely gated and has the pool area, as shown on the photos. The 9 x 4.5 metre pool has a salt water system which is very gentle on the skin compared with traditional chlorine, and uses solar heating to keep it nice and warm (sun permitting...). There is a ledge at 1 metre the whole way round, ideal for children. Sun loungers are provided and the table can be extended to accommodate up to 10 guests. There is outdoor lighting and a pool light so you can enjoy the long warm evenings outside.
All linen is provided and there is a washing machine for your use during your stay.
We think that it is Ideal for families – we have owned the house for 19 years and both our boys (now 16 & 18) have grown up (on holiday) here. Please note that we are located in a quiet village with immediate neighbours, so if you are looking for somewhere to party outside until the early hours this may not be the right place for you. It's probably also worth mentioning that our neighbour keeps a couple of geese and a few chickens in part of her garden, just in case this is an issue for you.
Changeover day is normally Saturday, but we will endeavour to be flexible wherever possible. Checkout by 10 am and arrival from 4pm. The closest airports are Carcassonne (45 mins) or Toulouse (1 hr 15 mins) and we consider the drive from Carcassonne Airport to be the most picturesque 'airport run' we have ever encountered.
Please note that this is a strictly non-smoking property.
We welcome any questions via email or phone and we will always do our best to reply as quickly as possible.

Leave ReviewWhat a marvellous villa
By Greig on 12-Jul-2025We, a family group of seven adults, had a wonderful fortnight here. The villa is spacious, well presented and quiet. The pool area is particularly attractive and ideal for an afternoon's lazy lounging or for eating al fresco. There is plenty to do and see locally. Mirepoix is charming. Highly recommended.
A Wonderful house
By Martin on 06-Jun-2025Have just back from a lovely stay at this house enough room for two sets of grandparents and a young family, pool area was ideal for young and old with enough seating and shaded areas for those who needed it. The house has all the amenities you’d expect. and enough room for us all to relax.Only a short drive to the lovely local town of Mirepoix and also well located for Carcassonne to explore. Richard was so helpful with local information and making sure we had everything we needed for a young toddler , would have no hesitation in booking again Thanks again for a lovely stay .
Lovely house
By Suzanne on 26-May-2025Just spent a very enjoyable week in this property with 3 generations of our family. The house is very large, so we didn't feel like we were on top of each other at all. Very clean and well presented. Secure parking for our hire car. And the pool and out door area was lovely. Not overlooked at all. Nice quiet village. Mirapoix, a short drive away is stunning. This is the second time we've stayed at this property and I'm sure we'll be back. The whole family loved it
Lovely week
By Adrian Jones on 29-Sep-2024The family house was great for our weeks stay in the first week of October. We combined some time at the pool with cycling excursions, going to the Pyrenees , sightseeing and generally exploring the local area. The house is spacious, well equipped and clean and we thought better was than the photos . The village was very quiet but Mirapoix is very close with lovely architecture, a great market, shops and a good large supermarket very close by car. The owners of the bread dispensing machine in the village were away when we there but the supermarket and boulangerie in Mirapoix were convenient. We would probably go 2 weeks earlier if we returned.
Great holiday in rural France
By Brian Wood on 09-Sep-2024We were a family group of four couples, one single, and an infant, all but me Australian. Most of the group had never visited France, let alone this area. The trip was an outstanding success and we all loved this house. If you are after the property with the perfect appearance and detached grounds to grace your social media profile then look elsewhere. But if you are after a genuine house in a quiet village in a beautiful area, look no further. We found the description matched what we found and in most areas exceeded expectations. In particular the bathrooms were particularly good. Spotlessly clean throughout. The bedroom on the 2nd floor is accessed by very steep stairs and has a low roof either side so this might not suit some. Very good value and we would love to return one day.
A great family holiday house.
By Anne Weston on 12-Aug-2024A lovely family home, very well appointed and equipped for a 3-generation family holiday. The lovely salt pool was appreciated by the whole family, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the inflatables and the water pistols. The. Village is quiet but only 5 minutes drive from Mirepoix, which is a beautiful characterful medieval town, with all the shops cafes and restaurants needed to experience the real South of France life. We all found what we called the ‘village bread bot’ fascinating ! What a brilliant idea, since the boulangerie has closed. A very good place from where to explore the whole area. Great markets and night markets and every village has something going on during the summer. It is a good idea however, to research and plan beforehand, as we found we missed a lot exciting events. Thank you Richard for being a great host and for making our stay so memorable !
