Cwary Vean was built by Viscount Clifton, circa 1900. The single storey cottage has light, spacious rooms with high ceilings. A small conservatory with table and chairs is the perfect place to take in the sea view or to catch the winter sun. The garden patio area catches the Summer sun from rising to setting. There is a private gate from the garden onto the lane leading down through a grass meadow over a brook less than 10 minutes to Polurrian beach and the coastal path. Situated midway between village and beach, Cwary Vean is ideal for walkers or beach lovers, but conveniently placed as a centre from which to explore the peninsular's wide diversity of villages, beaches, estuaries, woods, moors and exotic gardens. The accommodation is spacious and airy in summer but, with central heating and a log burner cosy and warm in Winter. There is too much to see and visit in a single week on the peninsular-which means I frequently get returning visitors and have made many friends who come every year. Some guests come purely for the peace and quiet of our valley location-they park the car on arrival and do not use it again until it's time to leave. Others use the cottage as a convenient centre to range far and wide (or just to go to the beach every day). Do please telephone if you have any queries or would like any extra information at all.

My Annual Visit To Cwary Vean

By Steph, Bilbo & Lennie on 03-Mar-2018

What a great and lucky find! I have already stayed here two years running and would have stayed again this year if circumstances had allowed - however I am booked in for 2019! This is the perfect dog friendly cottage from which to explore Cornwall and the property itself is only a few minutes walk through sheep free fields to a perfect sandy cove - idyllic for early morning dogwalks or days on the beach in clement weather. There is plenty of parking and the cottage is spacious and very well equipped with a really useful entrance area for boots, dog towels, coats etc. It is centrally heated, so always warm, but there is also a large woodburning stove for cosy nights in - or days if you are a winter visitor like me! The beds are extremely comfortable and there is plenty of storage space in the bright rooms. Unusually for a cottage, the kitchen and living area is surprisingly spacious which is a bonus as the cottage sleeps four, so no falling over each other - or any pets! The walks either way along the headland to neighbouring coves are perfect, with stunning views and the village is within very easy reach for local shopping or visits to the pubs. Mullion itself is as quaint as only Cornish villages can be, but get in the car and you are within reach of wondrous places all over the Cornish peninsula with something to suit all ages and tastes, from Lands End and the Eden Project to Tintagel - and back via the Minack Open Air Theatre and a plethora of standing stones and burial chambers! Chris, the owner and his dog Tilly are exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful, without being in the slightest intrusive. He lives on site with his wife in the property next door and is a mine of local information should it be required. I would add that as a single woman I would feel very safe should I be staying there alone with this immediate access to the owners. I would also say book early - many people, like myself, are returning visitors which actually says it all!

Grand Location And Beautiful Cottage

By Petra Somerfeld on 20-Oct-2017

My sister and I really had a good time at Cwary Vean at the beginning of October. The Cottage had everything it needs and was nice and cosy to stay in, it has a great location close to the beach, you can have a nice walk to Poldhu cove and Mullion cove closeby, and we felt safe and comfortable with Chris and Tilly next door to have a chat or to cuddle Tilly. Driving down to the Cottage between the typical narrow walls was a challenge for me at first but after two days it was no problem at all - and we didn't have the smallest rental car with our Vauxhall Mokka X! We explored a lot of Cornwall from here and drove to Lizard Point, Trebah Garden, Penzance, St. Ives, Polperro, The lost Gardens of Heligan and even as far as to the Eden Project and Fowley. It was our first trip to Cornwall and it certainly won't be our last! If we come again we'd love to stay in charming Cwary Vean again!
My Response

Thank you for coming to stay with us. We do try to make Cwary Vean somewhere that our guests feel at home-and it all seems worthwhile when we get happy people at the end of their stay and especially when they say they intend to return. As you said on the last day, there is so much to see and so many places to visit; even after all your trips and the lovely places you discovered there are still more awaiting you next time; you will both be very welcome whenever you want to come to stay again and we very much look forward to seeing you then!

Lovely Place To Stay And Explore From

By Jacqueline M on 31-May-2017

Very comfortable cottage with all we needed. We loved walking to the beach and along the cliffs and there are plenty of interesting places to drive to within easy reach. Chris was very pleasant and helpful, which added to the enjoyment of the stay.
My Response

Thank you Jacqueline-it was a pleasure to meet you and Jo. I am already planning to action your suggestion of lowering one of the hedges to enhance the view over the fields. We tend to pay more attention to the sea view, and the hills and valley get forgotten-so that was a good suggestion, thank you! We would love to see you both again and you will always be welcome. Chris

I was attracted to this property because it is dog friendly, centrally heated and secluded, yet within walking distance of pubs, shops etc. It is tastefully decorated and furnished as per the website pictures. It is truly a haven for dogs with a gate onto a track leading to fields and a beautiful sheltered beach. The heating alone is efficient but the log burner just adds to the cosiness. There is hot water in abundance so it is no problem for four adults wanting showers and baths. The beds are comfortable and the natural silence aids sleep. The cottage is well equipped and the external conservatory area provides storage space for food and drink (it kept our wine cool), boots and coats. We cooked two roast dinners during our holiday and, although there is limited worktop space, we had sufficient pans and dishes and managed well. I was totally unimpressed with the local Asda's delivery service and would recommend Sainsbury instead. We explored the local area, walking the coast path to Mullion Cove where there is a dog friendly cafe, and in the opposite direction to Poldhu Cove where we enjoyed an impressive breakfast, sitting outside at the Cafe on the beach - in December!! This cafe, which deserves full marks for quality and value, also allows dogs Inside and is open all year, except for two days!! I would recommend visitors bring a powerful torch if planning to walk from the cottage to the village in the evening because the road to the cottage is very uneven. Further afield, we had a fantastic meal in the Cadgwith Cove Inn after a lovely walk over the coast path to Carleon Cove and The Poltesco Valley which has ancient industrial remains to explore. Porthleven, as beautiful as ever, provided retail therapy with its lovely galleries and gift shops. The walk down to Prussia Cove with its dramatic views of the sea, is well worth the effort, as is a stroll around the lovely Trebah Gardens where the gift shops and cafe are worth a visit! Wherever we ventured, it was always a pleasure to return to the comfortable Cwary Vean. Thank you to Chris and the lovely Tilly for the warm welcome and for being so easy going and helpful.
My Response

Well that is really nice to read-Thank you! We do try hard to make our guests glad they came and we also try to contribute in any unintrusive way that we can to the enjoyment of their holiday; so it is very much appreciated when we get such nice feedback. It was lovely to meet you and your family (including Breeze and Reuben) and you will all be very welcome if you decide to come again sometime. Thank you too for the comment about the torch. I am going to look for one today to keep in the cottage for winter visitors to use on the dark evening walks. I think one of the new clockwork ones would be a good idea -no chance of the battery failing halfway home!

A Wonderful Week In October

By Eva G on 07-Nov-2016

We spent a wonderful week in Cwary Vean at the beginning of October. The cottage is nestling in a sheltered area on the way down to the beach. The location is absolutely fantastic. The secluded private garden, totally dog safe, has a gate to the footpath that takes you down to the beach. You can either carry on the Coastal path in either direction, or choose to walk across fields and grasslands. You are walking distance to Mullion, a lovely little village where you can buy fish that has just been caught. The scenery around The Lizard is absolutely stunning. We were so welcomed by Chris and Tilly. Tilly is such a friendly and good natured dog. It is lovely to stay somewhere where you feel that your host will do almost anything to help you enjoy Cwary Vean and the area as much as he does. We will be back! Eva & John
My Response

Thank you Eva & John for coming to stay at Cwary Vean. Thank you too for taking the time to write such a lovely review for us. It was a pleasure to meet you both (& Elsa) and we would love to welcome you back for another holiday. We do try hard to make the holiday cottage a home from home and to ensure that guests know they are welcome, without intruding on their privacy. When we receive a review such as yours it does encourage us to believe we may have succeeded. As always during quiet weeks we are looking for upgrades and improvements where possible. So far this month we have enlarged the patio and put on a new, taller, entrance gate, I think you will approve. We shall look forward to your return- Thank you!

Secluded Tranquil Beach Getawy

By Zoe H on 26-Aug-2016

We had a wonderful holiday. Chris made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The location was fabulous; peaceful and secluded yet very close to the beach and local amenities. The cottage itself was immaculate and had everything we needed. Locally, there was plenty to do for our teenage boys (we would recommend the sea kayaking with Lizard Adventure) and Chris recommended some superb restaurants. Also, the village of Mullion had a real community feel with many friendly locals. This was a very special place and we will be back....my husband and I haven't felt so relaxed for decades! Thanks again to Chris for being such a great host.
My Response

Thank you Zoe for coming to stay at Cwary Vean. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. Thank you too for taking the time to write such a lovely review-it makes a big difference to us to know how much our holiday guests have enjoyed their stay here and the beaches and places they have visited.I am delighted the recommended restaurants were so successful. The Lizard Peninsular has so much variety of interest that even 2 weeks is not enough, so I am really pleased that you will be coming back to stay -you will be most welcome and I look forward to seeing you all again!

A Week In Cornwall

By Michael B on 01-Aug-2016

The property is lovely and just as described and it suited our family (including 2 little girls age 3 and 5) perfectly. It had everything we needed. The location near the beach is just fantastic. Chris (the owner) was very welcoming, we arrived early to beat the traffic and Chris very kindly allowed us in to make a cup of tea before we headed off to the beach which is just a 5 minute walk away. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone thinking of staying there. It is on our list to definitely come back to. There are lots of nice local beaches including one at the end of the path just 5 min walk away, the village is only a 10 minute walk where there was a nice playpark for the kids and pubs/shop etc
My Response

Thank you for coming to stay with us, it was a pleasure to meet you all. Your two lasses are about the same age as the children who visited me in my first year of holiday Letting so many years ago-they are now late teenagers and still coming back to relive their childhood holidays. It is always our pleasure when guests have a great time at Cwary Vean and we would love to welcome you all back for another visit (hopefully with lots of sunshine again).
By the way-we have left the electric blender in the Cottage as a permanent facility and this week's guests are making summer fruit drinks with it!

On arrival, we were warmly greeted by Chris and Tilly and shown where to find everything. The cottage is superbly located and just a few minutes walk from Polurrian Bay in one direction and Mullion Village in the other. We felt cosy and warm during our stay, the wood-burner was great on colder evenings and the conservatory on sunny mornings for breakfast. The Lizard Peninsular is full of spectacular coves and quaint Cornish fishing villages. The Cafe at the Lizard Lighthouse with its amazing views soon became a favourite. We would strongly recommend Cwary Vean to anyone thinking of a stay in Mullion, you will not be disappointed.
My Response

Thank you for coming to stay and for taking the time to write such a nice review for us. I think this early season part of the year has a lot to offer with the spring flowers in the hedgerows and the promise of Summer returning. We do seem to be lucky with our climate on this bit of the peninsular and Spring sunshine after the winter is just as welcome as our guests! Thank you -come again

Idyllic Getaway

By Stephanie C on 01-Mar-2016

I had been looking for a perfect retreat and found one. This is THE most ideal location for a peaceful holiday - 5 minutes walk from the beautiful Pollurrian Cove and only three quarters of a mile along the coastal path to Mullion Cove and one and a half mile in the other direction to Poldhu Cove. The property is spacious, with high ceilings rather than the traditional idea of a Cornish cottage, but this made it all the more appealing to me. The bed in the double room was actually more comfortable than my own at home - and my daughter said the same about hers in the twin room! It was spotlessly clean on arrival, but the owner put my mind at rest about any mess my two dogs may make in view of the sometimes inclement weather - it is well appointed for dog owners with an excellent entry way that allows for towels, boots, wet coats etc. The small garden is fully enclosed and it is just minutes down the path to spacious sheep free fields - perfect for early morning dog walks! There are two comfortable sofas which we truly appreciated after our long days out and we had all the equipment we needed to make life easy. Location wise, it is perfectly situated to visit both the north and south coasts of Cornwall and the village itself has all the facilities one could need, though we did not actually use any of the pubs. I will certainly visit again and would recommend it to anyone - including sole female travellers who would feel particularly safe with Chris and his wife close by and so ready to help in any way.
My Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. We do make continuing efforts to ensure that Cwary Vean meets the expectation of our holiday visitors (although we cannot claim any credit for the 2 or 3 sunny days you enjoyed when it seemed to be raining everywhere else)-so it is always very much appreciated when we know guests have had a good time and want to come again. Welcoming new people to stay, and sometimes telling them about some of the places to visit when they ask, is always a pleasure for us; however it is doubly so when they return .
Thank you for coming to stay in our very special corner of lovely Cornwall, we look forward to your next visit!

Cwary Vean does exactly what it says on the tin. Cosy but light and airy the website shows it off exactly. Chris was very welcoming, he knew all our names and treated us like old friends. Polurrian beach is stunning and just a few minutes away down the coast path. The Mounts bay inn was great for food as was the Hazelphron Inn. A must see is Kynance Cove on the lizard. Walk from the Lizard and the views are amazing. Make sure the tide is out and go for a swim down at Kynance. We would definitely come again but book early Chris gets booked up very quickly. We must mention that as non doggy people the house was immaculately clean and "Tilly" came often to visit and was very friendly! Mullion and Cornwall in general when the sun is shining can not be beaten!
My Response

We get such pleasure when our visitors enjoy themselves to the full. We do try hard to make the cottage live up to (and hopefully beyond) guests' expectations; holidays are too important to be disappointing.
It makes having a holiday cottage a pleasure when we know the cottage and holiday have been successful, especially so when our lovely visitors make the time and effort to write equally lovely reviews-Thank you!

Magical Place To Stay

The cottage itself exceeds expectation and the photographs albeit excellent do not do it justice, because it has very high roofs and a feeling of grandeur. Chris, the owner, and Tilly his dog, make it a home from home and if you arrive exhausted and tired, it is wonderful to have someone alongside who fits in with your stay i.e. if you need a chat or help, there immediately, or if you need space you have that too. The property has all that you need and is clean, bright and airy. The main attribute is the feeling of belonging and not just passing through and I know from the reviews in the folder left in the property everyone without exception felt like this. I have to say you are very fortunate if you find a time not already booked by repeat "offenders" and that says a lot about the whole package - Mullion, Chris/Tilly and the cottage. Please do not hesitate to try and book, you will not regret it. I cannot thank Chris enough, I have returned batteries charged and rejuvenated. Great cottage for all not just animal lovers. Thanks Chris. Deb, Rac and Peaches.
My Response

Thank you Deb for coming to stay-it was a pleasure to meet you, Rac and Peaches. Thank you too for such a nice review-we do try go the extra mile in pursuit of visitor satisfaction so it is always great to know guests have enjoyed their holiday and that they have felt truly welcome at Cwary Vean. We are very fortunate to have a healthy number of advance bookings and it is grand to have previous guests return as friends. We look forward to your next visit!

We stayed at Cwary Vean for a week, and, apart from the weather (only 2 days of sun!!), we found the cottage to be very comfortable and welcoming! The location is amazing, and we would definitely love to stay there again. Chris was very welcoming, and it was lovely to meet Tilly, his gorgeous lab! Unfortunately, we had to leave early on the morning of our departure, so we didn't get a chance to say goodbye, Chris! Thankyou for the use of your lovely cottage, and hope to visit again!
My Response

Thank you Elizabeth, Peter, Megan & Thomas for coming to stay at Cwary Vean, and thank you too for taking the time to write us a review.
It was a pleasure to meet you all and see you enjoying yourselves. It is a pity you didn't get our normal levels of sunshine this time. As you probably noticed from the fields and gardens around the village, we desperately needed some rain-but it would have been kinder had it come over a longer period rather than concentrated in your week! We are so used to nice weather in this corner of the county that 5 days without proper sunshine was a surprise to us too.
You will all be most welcome when you come again-and, statistically, many more bright sunny days would be a pretty safe bet! Regards to all Chris

Pure Bliss

By Lynne on 16-May-2015

We have just spent the most wonderful time at Cwary Vean. An idyllic, peaceful retreat. You know when you walk up the path from a beautiful rural beach, you walk past a garden gate set amongst the foliage, how tempting would it be to have a peek and you just wonder who is lucky enough to live there. Well it was us, even if it was just for a week. The cottage is lovely a real home from home, Chris the owner has clearly thought of everything that may be needed. With such really high ceilings the cottage is really light and airy with a feeling of so much space. We were blessed with lovely weather in April! and we just loved to sit outside in the little patio garden which is so sheltered, a real sun trap, surrounded by the trees and flowers listening to and watching the birds that obviously love Cwary Vean as much as we did. Such a delight to hear the horses pass the garden gate on the bridal path on occasions. Walking to the village took little more than 5mins, and a walk around the picturesque church yard gives you a feeling for the history of Mullion. You will find a Spar useful for provisions and a delicious local homemade curry takeaway every Tuesday and Thursday. We really loved eating out in the Halzephron Inn a little further along the coast nr Church Cove, the little church being fascinating. And further along Porthleven is worth visiting with it's Rick Stein Restaurant. But our delight was that we didn't need to use the car during the day. Just sit and relax in the sun, walk to Polurrian beach just down from the cottage, in our opinion the most beautiful of all beaches and walk the coast path over to Mullion Cove or Poldhu. The late afternoon and evening we reserved for exploring but our days were filled with the peace and beauty of the local area. A big Thank you to Chris, Carole and Tilly for being so welcoming and helpful and sharing your little bit of paradise, we hope to see you again soon. With our heart felt thanks Lynne, David and LottieRecommended for: Families with Young Children, Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway.

Thank you Lynne and David-it was a pleasure to have you (and Lottie) to stay at Cwary Vean. Thankyou too for your lovely review-of course we love being here and really would not want to be anywhere else in the world, but it is so gratifying when some one else shares and appreciates something or somewhere that one loves (and so eloquently too!). So please come and share our lovely little bit of paradise whenever you can. We look forward to seeing you again. Chris,Carole and Tilly

We have been visiting Chris at Cwary Vean since 2006 about 10 visits in all and of course have booked for May 2016. This is an ideal spot very quiet spotlessly clean, great value for money and in Chris a most charming and helpful, unobtrusive Host. We love it there and would recommend anyone to stay with Chris. Our little Jack Russell Pixie also is very happy there and the enclosed garden is an absolute benefit for Pixie as like all Jack's she tends to run off. Fabulous walks all around, great little village in Mullion good food and happy people. So Chris thank you again and see you in 2016. 5 well deserved Gold Stars, Chris!!Recommended for: Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Age 55+.

Excellent week in well equipped and ideally located cottage. Perfect especially for dog owners, though the place was spotlessly clean so you'd never know! Short walk down to the often deserted beach or a wander over the headland-mile upon mile of coastal path and sheltered coves to explore. and a lovely home to come back to each afternoon. Everything you could need at the cottage, including local maps and Chris helpful with recommendations if needed. Best night's sleep for a long while and very sorry to leave. Thanks to Chris and Tilly for a very warm welcome. Highly recommended!

We love our winter breaks, and we discovered Cwary Vean and liked the look of it and the area so we booked - and we are glad we made the choice we did. Chris, the owner had already been intouch prior to our arrival and had prepared the fire for our arrival and set the central heating so we arrived to a lovely warm cottage - The little touches like the fresh flowers, jug of milk micepies and shortbread go a long way & were very nice and made us feel very welcomed. Chris popped by later the to check our preferences for the heating to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. The cottage itself is in a lovely, secluded position, and is very homely. Even for deep winter, the central heating and the log burner made the cottage lovely and warm throughout our stay. You are minutes from the beach, coastal paths and the village of Mullion where there are a couple of nice pubs etc. We found the cottage very well equipped with good working WiFi and the beds comfortable, infact the kitchen was the best equipped we have ever had in a rental property, here or abroad which made a real change! As non dog owners, the fact that this is a dog friendly property wasn't at all noticeable with no dog hair, nor doggy smells at all. Overall, whether you visit in the depths of winter or the height of summer i'm sure that you wont be disappointed if you book this property and Chris will do his upmost to have a relaxing and comfortable stay in a lovely part of Cornwall. Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing.

We had a lovely week staying at Cwary Vean and just wish it had been longer. The cottage was just as advertised, close to the beach and village, clean, warm and comfortable. Chris was a great host, very helpful with our car problem(it was a slow journey home up the hills Chris, but think it is sorted now!) and there when we needed but busy elsewhere at other times. We had milk, flowers and shortbread on arrival and Chris brought homegrown grapes on our first morning, sat outside on a private patio, lovely! The walks from Cwary Vean are marvelous and I highly recommend going to Poldhu beach and Cafe. Also Kynance Cove is beautiful. The Old Inn is great for steaks on Friday, also Porthleven has many great restaurants. I would recommend the cottage to other holiday makers, there is lots of room for families and a dog and so much to see on the doorstep but also close to many other lovely places in Cornwall. I really look forward to going back soon and seeing more of the beautiful area that we missed this time. Thank-you Chris, Carol and Tilly for having us and sharing your stories and home.(And the personal tour!) Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway.

Thank you Jo and Tim for coming to stay at Cwary Vean and for your kind review. One of the best aspects of having a holiday home is when you meet nice people-another is when they have enjoyed their holiday and go home feeling happy and rested. I am pleased you got home safely. I hope next time you come you will have an uneventful journey in both directions. We all look forward to your next visit (you know when the grapes are due to ripen!)

True Magic

By Sue,Colin & Splash on 12-Sep-2014

This is our fifth holiday here with our dog Splash. When we pull up outside the cottage it's like coming home with the bonus of a warm welcome from Chris & Carol (owner) and Tilly (dog), who we always look forward to seeing and catching up since we last saw them. Chris really cares about his guests, but never intrudes, but instinctively is there when you need him and will go that extra mile to make sure you have everything you need. The cottage is so comfortable, clean and relaxing. It is tucked away in the most beautiful setting and yet only a 5 minute walk to Mullion village with all the amenities you could ever need. Great pubs, restaurants, post office, health center, vets, food store. There is so much on the doorstep to explore without taking the car out. The most dramatic scenery, and stunning sandy coves. We are always amazed that every time we come back here we discover something new. Everything about this place and its people has captured our hearts, our own piece of paradise without ever having to step on a plane.Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Pet-friendly, Tourists without a Car, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway.

Thank you Sue and Colin. We always look forward to your annual holiday too. It is a pleasure to see you both every year (and Tilly loves her 'nose to nose' chats with Splash). Having just spent a lovely, relaxing two weeks at Cwary Vean, we have re booked for another week next year which is a testament to how much we have enjoyed our holiday. The cottage is situated a 5 minute walk from the closest beach and a 10 minute stroll from Mullion village which has shops, pubs, bakery, takeaways and a large park. Many other fabulous beaches and attractions are a short drive away. The cottage is very well equipped with everything in good order, very clean and is a good size. The owner lives on site and is very helpful and on hand for any advice but also discreet so we felt very private. The secluded garden allows safety for dogs (which are very welcome) and children and overlooks beautiful countryside. The lean-two conservatory includes a large open plan porch area complete with washing machine, freezer and additional storage for garden and BBQ implements (provided). Thankyou Jonathon and Rachel, it has been a pleasure to have you, Harry (and Charlie) in the cottage for the last two weeks, we love it when our guests enjoy themselves the way you have. You are a lovely family and we are looking forward to seeing you all again next Spring. In the meantime we will work on your idea of a face book page for Cwary Vean-thank you for the suggestion.
