This summer my partner and I had the pleasure of staying at Mill Cottage with my sister and her family. We easily found the cottage using google maps, and as we arrived in the afternoon sunshine, our first impression when we drove over the stone bridge, entered the driveway and saw the cottage and garden was one of excitement at the prospect of spending a week at such a beautiful place. The cottage was spacious, immaculately clean, comfortable and contained everything we needed. The garden with our own stretch of river was idyllic. The owner was very welcoming when they popped over to greet us, and gave us some good tips on day trips from the cottage. We explored the garden and grounds, and discovered the footpath just up from the bridge which links to the Tarka Trail (perfect for running, cycling and hiking). We walked to Bideford and back one afternoon from the cottage, which was a gentle easy walk. My nephew loved his forest bedroom, and our rooms were also very comfortable. We all slept very well as there was no noise as you are not near the main road. Be sure to go out at night to look at the stars, as there is little artificial light, the view is spectacular. We even had our own resident kingfisher! We saw him every day from the cottage either flying up and down the river or sitting on his favourite perch in the garden. The location of the cottage is perfect for day trips, and I have included a few pictures of the coast and some of the walks we did nearby. We had a great Monopoly game one afternoon, and we were also present for a particularly high tide which flooded the garden temporarily, which you can see in the photos. We enjoyed watching the occasional paddle boarder and canoeist make their way down the river. We found our holiday here peaceful and relaxing, a great escape from our busy lives, and a perfect place to explore beautiful Devon. We all really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again, and will recommend to family and friends.
