Overview
Description
Mill Cottage is a peaceful riverside property located 4km from the coastal town of Bideford. This enchanting retreat boasts an abundance of wildlife activity in the secluded Yeo Valley, with no nearby neighbours and stunning river views from all the main rooms; it provides an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the beautiful Devon coastline. The property has three bedrooms:
Bedroom 1: Superking bed which can be split into two single beds. Chest of Drawers and Wardrobe.
Bedroom 2: Double bed. Chest of Drawers and Wardrobe.
Bedroom 3: Two single beds. Tall Chest of Drawers.
Hand towels, bath towels and spare linen are provided but not Beach Towels.
The front terrace is a perfect location to enjoy the river. It includes seats, tables, parasol and a BBQ. We also have a campfire located on the riverbank which you are welcome to use. There is a bag of logs and BBQ fuel in the woodshed for the first light. The rear courtyard is a suntrap which offers additional privacy and storage for surfboards, bikes etc.
The property has a good broadband/WiFi connection throughout, plentiful power sockets and USB charging sockets in all bedrooms. Mill Cottage is an environmentally friendly property with Air Source heating and Solar Panels providing renewable energy. A welcome book with full details of the property and local information will be emailed to you before your arrival. Driveway parking is available for up to 5 cars.
The large garden borders the tidal river which can flow over the lawn to a depth of over a meter during the highest tides in Spring and Autumn. This can provide a wonderful environment for wild swimming and canoeing, however it can also provides risks and for this reason, we cannot accept liability for any injuries or losses that occur outside of the main cottage building.
Unfortunately we do not accept pets at Mill Cottage and due to the potential risks of the river, we would suggest that it is only suitable for supervised children 12 years old or above. There is no smoking inside the cottage.
We give a 25% discount for booking of one week or longer which will be included in the estimated price. We will give a further 10% discount if there are less than three guests.

Leave ReviewAbsolutely stunning
By Annick on 03-Sep-2025We had a wonderful time at this cottage. Beautiful surroundings, near Hartland, absolutely stunning, very nice garden (our boys loved it!), and the house was very comfortable and clean. Alastair helped us out very quickly when there were some problems with the electricity. Highly recommended!

By Shirley on 04-Aug-2025A lovely secluded cottage with fab grounds. Sadly we were only there for 3 nights whilst attending a family wedding. We’d love to return. Alastair was very helpful with great communication. Highly recommend

Waking up to see a Cormorant Which is a large dark brown bird with a long neck land and paddle the fly away to see the kingfisher the hedgehog a large one walking across the lawn. So many beautiful birds back to nature.Iain responds quickly and goes above and beyond to help. Property was so clean. Will be returning
Perfect
By Martin Ford on 21-Jun-2025Mill Cottage, is an idyllic place to stay, from the moment we drove over the bridge and saw the Cottage and gardens we couldn't wait to get inside. Everything we needed for a perfect, peaceful holiday. Numerous birds to watch Kingfishers, Herons, Wagtails Red Kites and lots more. We had a dip in the river which cooled us down. This was a fantastic holiday and we will definitely be back.
Fabulous enjoyable stay
By Graeme Hodge on 18-May-2025Just had a second four night stay in this lovely and excellently presented house. Came here in late Sept 2024 and wanted to visit in mid-Spring 2025. The accommodation is very clean and tidy, and very much a practical property to live in. Large widows in all rooms which makes the property airy and light. Very comfortable beds too. The side terrace patio is a sun trap for the afternoon and evening, with lovely views across the lawn, tidal river and surrounding trees. Plenty of bird wildlife to watch, but unfortunately no kingfisher like last time! Luckily, the weather was gorgeous, so a re-visit to RHS Rosemoor (7 miles due south) to see a different season, and a day trip over to Lundy Island, and a walk into Bideford via The Tarka Trail filled the days. Even if the weather was poor and wet, the house is so comfortable, you wouldn't mind staying there all day! We will be looking to re-visit in 2026 for yet another relaxing break.
