Leave ReviewLovely quiet location
By Guest from Peterborough on 08-Mar-2025"This cottage is in a lovely quiet rural location, but near enough to York and tourist attractions (eg. Castle Howard, Sheriff Hutton castle) to make it easy to get about. We used the cottage as a base for seeing family in York, and for walking, and stayed four nights. There are lots of footpaths from the cottage in all directions. Richard greeted us on arrival, and was very friendly and approachable. The kitchen is well equipped, with lots of mugs, crockery and cutlery (so often in short supply in holiday accommodation!). We used the downstairs bedroom and ensuite wet room with a very good shower (although be aware there is no wardrobe, just drawers and a hanging rail). Directions provided to the cottage were clear and accurate, and other useful information about the cottage and area were emailed in advance. Useful local booklets and an OS map were inside the cottage. We enjoyed watching the birds at the bird feeders (including a nuthatch and a pheasant)."
A very Warm welcome

By Simon on 18-Feb-2024Super lovely cottage in a fabulous location on top of the Howardian Hills overlooking the Vale of York. Local walks out the door in beautiful countryside through farmland and woods. Cottage located at end of farm road in secluded hamlet. Great place for dog owners. Nearby pubs are dog friendly and serve good food. It’s a quiet area but near to York or Castle Howard for town or touristy stuff. Also 30mibs from North York Moors. We’re regular visitors to this area and this is one of the best places we’ve stayed in.
Lovely cottage, lovely stay
By Higham on 15-Dec-2023"Stayed December 2023, but was lovely and warm. Lovely cottage. Everything you could need. Very comfortable extremely quiet location and Sat Nav found address and postcode easily. Cottage is spotlessly clean and caters for every need. Owners respected your privacy but easily contacted and friendly, Richard and Kim and of course Ruby their dog. Thank you for lovely stay. x" Ratings: Location Cleanliness Service/Staff Facilities Would Recommend: Yes
Brilliant Visit
By Amy on 02-Nov-2023This is a great place to stay and we had a brilliant visit. The area is beautiful, very quiet and rural with great walks from the door and all the shops and attractions of York a short drive away. There are, as Richard said, a surprising number of nice places to eat within a short drive, too. The cottage itself is lovely: spotlessly clean, well-presented and well-equipped. The kids loved having their own ‘suite’ upstairs and though the stairs are steep they were no problem at all. We were warm and cosy, despite Storm Babet’s best efforts! Richard and Kim were friendly and helpful hosts, providing a warm welcome and some really useful information and recommendations.
