Description

Gardeners Cottage

Gardeners Cottage is a luxury self-catering holiday cottage on the edge of Northumberland National Park, near Alnwick, Cragside, Hadrian's Wall and Rothbury, as well as Bamburgh, Craster and Seahouses on Northumberland's Heritage Coast. Tucked away in the south-west corner of Burnfoot, this two-storey holiday cottage has south-facing views over a burn where kingfishers, egrets, deer and otters are regularly spotted. An ideal base for family holidays in Northumberland.

Burnfoot Holiday Cottages is a small family-owned business, and we pride ourselves on paying attention to the important details to make sure your stay is enjoyable and stress free. Whatever kind of holiday you are planning in Northumberland, you will find the perfect home from home at Burnfoot. Located on the edge of Northumberland National Park, our luxury self-catering holiday cottages are also within easy reach of Northumberland’s Heritage Coast and its famous beaches (just 13 miles away). With uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills, a wealth of wildlife on its doorstep, and the babble of two burns in the background, our self-catering holiday cottages are the perfect place for escaping the pressures of modern life. Our position near Cragside, Rothbury, Alnwick and Hadrian’s Wall, along with the likes of Bamburgh, Berwick, Craster, Holy Island and Seahouses on Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, cannot be improved on for a family holiday in Northumberland. Our self-catering holiday cottages have been created from the careful conversion of a very grandly designed 19th century stone-built farm steading with a fascinating historical connection. Burnfoot, named due to its location at the confluence of two tributaries of the River Coquet, was created by the great Victorian inventor industrialist, Lord Armstrong, and was part of his world-renowned Cragside Estate, now owned by the National Trust.

Downstairs Large open plan living and dining room with stunning views south through stone mullioned windows and a large, glazed door. The sitting area features vintage leather chesterfield sofas, a traditional stone inglenook fireplace, contemporary Danish wood burning stove, flat-screen television with Freeview, DVD player, and shelves of good books. The kitchen area features an impressive oak table for 7 guests, and an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen with integrated stainless steel hob, oven and chimney hood, dishwasher, washing machine, free standing fridge freezer and microwave oven. There is direct access from the kitchen to the fully enclosed south-facing garden. Accessed from the living area is a large storage cupboard for boots and coats. Alongside is a door leading to ground floor bedroom with king size bed and oak furniture, with a large east-facing window for morning sun. Next door is a shower room with a large shower enclosure, basin and wc. Accessed from the other side of the sitting room are stairs to the first floor. Upstairs Bright landing lit by a conservation rooflight. To the right of the landing is a family bedroom in the eaves with a king size bed and single bed, fitted wardrobe, and oak furniture – well-lit with conservation rooflights allowing lovely views of the burn and meadows beyond. To the left of the landing is a compact shower room with basin and wc, and beyond that is an L-shaped twin bedroom in the eaves with two single beds, oak furniture and windows to three sides allowing superb valley views. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout this cottage for use with your own smart phone, tablet or laptop. Outside To the side, Gardeners Cottage has two reserved car parking spaces directly outside the entrance. Accessed directly from the living area is a south-facing fully enclosed garden with a terrace with outside furniture to seat seven guests – the perfect place to enjoy afternoon and evening sun.

For use solely by our guests, there is a championship tennis court in the grounds – re-surfaced and re-painted in 2020. As well as seeing the ponies, young imaginations can be fired by the otters, deer, badgers, salmon, owls, kingfishers and many other rare birds that can be seen regularly from the cottages. Burnfoot is named due to it being where two streams (burns) meet and it is the perfect place for exploration and adventure, but not at the expense of parents’ peace of mind. We have three young children ourselves and appreciate their need to challenge themselves but in as safe an environment as possible. Neither of the burns can be accessed without scaling a wall or a gate. Unlimited free superfast Wi-Fi is available in all cottages (access may not be available in every room due to the thickness of the stone walls).

Check in is any time from 4pm. Check out is 10am. The cottage has a key box so you can arrive and leave at any time you like.

The postcode of the cottage is NE65 7EY. There are brown tourism signs to Burnfoot Cottages from the nearby villages.

A 25% deposit secures your booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before your stay.
